I would love to have one of these in class so people's cellphones would stop going off while the teacher is lecturing.

There'd be a lot of bodies to clean up after a good comedy. :p

Some people actually need their cellphones.

Unless someone's bleeding to death, they don't need one during the middle of a movei:evil:

doctors
on call
etc ....

"Honey, I'm going in labor!"
"Mom, I just threw up all over the carpet"
"MARTHA, I JUST FELL DOWN THE STEPS AND BROKE MY HIP"
"This is your neighbor. Your house is on fire."
.... and on.

What's he (or she as the case may be) doing at the movies when his/her wife is home and 9 months pregnant?
"Mom, I just threw up all over the carpet"
I don't get this one.
"MARTHA, I JUST FELL DOWN THE STEPS AND BROKE MY HIP"
Call an ambulance.
"This is your neighbor. Your house is on fire."
I'd hope they'd be smart enough to call the fire department, as I'm not capable of putting out a house fire.
.... and on.
How exactly did people handle these situations BEFORE cell phones and pagers existed? It's amazing we've all survived this long.

It surprises me that people so adamantly defend cell phone use in theaters. I'd just like to be able to GO to a movie without having the experience ruined by teenage kids.

And why would you actually want to talk to them? There are much better things for them to be doing with their mouths than talking.

a lot of corporate board rooms as well as law offices have similar devices installed.
board meetings were getting out of hand with cell phones going off.

personal use?
Bus (during commute)
Movie theater
Any long queue/line

screw it, i wish there was a device just to block Nextel walkie-talkie usage.

If the theater just put up a sign that cell-phones are blocked it would be fine to block them.

You're inside a building and not guaranteed to get reception. Same goes when you're underground. I know some people who work in buildings that barely get any reception, should they sue too?

It's your choice to go inside places that might not (do not) get reception, you're not forced to go.

I know I would use this everyday for that one person on the bus who's having such a loud conversation that everyone has to hear it. Just once I'd like to hear "hello?" "hello?" an then silence.

You could build this out of parts at radio shack and some online stores for under $50. I am currently constructing one for fm radio so people cant listen to country music around me.

As someone who is on call I can't just turn my cell phone off, however in situations where cell phone use is inappropriate I'll leave my phone on vibrate, then go out to the hall and call back whoever called.

Personal jammers are not the answer, for places such as movie theaters and restaurants they should apply for a license to operate a jammer on their premises. When they get it they should openly point out the fact that they use one. I'm sure my employer would understand if I went out to eat or saw a movie in a place where cell signals are blocked so long as it's after 9pm. Means I won't be doing much before then though. It's too bad people don't have the etiquette to use a cell phone politely.

Would be nice to keep in my pocket when at the movies.
some people flip on their phones in the middle of a movie and the white screen against the dark room is annoying enough. Some dude had his screen on near the front for a while and that was annoying as hell. He was prob playing with his contact list or something... mofo... you're at a theatre.

Take fire extinguisher, smash mofo's cell phone into his face.
