I have a dodge stealth, essentially the identical thing.

Edit: and you guys have no clue what you are talking about. They weigh in around 2 tons fully decked and it is easy as hell to get them down to close to 3500 lbs. They are downright reliable as well if you take care of them. Don't launch too hard and you will be fine for a long time, there is one guy on the 3si forums who has 250,000 miles with the stock turbos on his vr4.

Main breaking points: Transfer case, but only when making 400-500 awhp and launching at 5k rpm. Driveshaft, but the same point as above.

the VR4 after 92 came with 320 crank hp, about 260 or so to all the wheels There was quite a bit of drivetrain loss.

Turbos arent too laggy either, 2.5k full spool. Kicks you in the teeth.

As for the transmissions. The manuals are easy to get parts for, and not too difficult to work on, as well as there being a vast amount of information on them.

BTW I got my twin turbo stealth with 109k on it for 5600 bucks.

that thing is insanely heavy even for an awd car. Sure it's fun to launch 507 all-wheel hp from a stop and get like 0-60 in 4 seconds and have a nice quarter mile, everything else about it just sucks.

besides, how many vr4s are there in your area....?

WTF are you talking about. The VR-4's were about 300-320HP, and because they are so heavy, up near 4K lbs, they only do the 1/4 in the low 14's IIRC...

wtf are you talking about ballmode. I destroy a wrx and celica. STI's and Evos are different due to having in the 300 hp range IIRC as well as being quite a bit lighter.

I agree, the stealth stock spoiler is retarded, hence the reason i removed mine.

A stock stealth tt/3kgt vr4 does the 1/4 in high 13seconds, and with a simple manual boost controller and a proper launch can net a high 12 or very low 13.

start with those cars i mentioned and mod from there.

you can do better in autocrossing if you desire, or turn them into drag monsters.

maybe not the all trac, but the others are better platforms than the stealth/3000gt

Close...a stocker is more like 14 seconds flat...high 13's is with a pro driver...13.9 is the official spec IIRC...

right.

not a bad car...but it's officially a 'GT'.

The electronics on it are expensive though and why they are such great deals on the used market.

even the stock vr4 is crap (not even worth talking about), therefore i'mt alking about a fully modded vr4, which is only mediocre.

Silent, while they may not be as light as say a DSM, there are more and more breaking into 10's, and probably in under a year we will see some 9 second ones as well.

Sad thing is that the majority of the cars are owned by younger people, or people who do not have the money to sink into it to make it even faster.

Insane3d: There are quite a few stock vr4's that break into the 13's.
http://www.dragtimes.com/Mitsubishi--3000GT-Drag-Racing.html

Although they may all not be confirmed, some are. There are also a host more on the 3si site, but their database is gayed.

Edit: Infested, you are not even worht talking to. There arent many other cars out there at the price of a 3000gt that can even compare to the speed of it.

A fully modded vr4 - Say, front mount intercooler, twin 16g's(evo3's), supporting mods, and everything, can put out well over 700 horsepower. We expect 1000horsepower on a few of them sometime in the coming year or so as networked knowledge grows.
Btw, that car is ray pampena's, as well as quite a few others that are starting to tune and turn up the boost on their 16g's.

just turbo a new eclipse, it'll weigh just as much and probably make more power

I'm sure there are some...better drivers...cars with slicks...better conditions..etc. The point remains that most are 14 seconds flat...maybe 13.9...nothing to exciting...

My 1992 Mustang GT unmodded could make it into the 13's easily with only 225HP...HP is only part of the story...

The VR4's have 320HP stock...but the torque numbers are kinda sad...

Most people who have replied so far have never been in one much less driven a twin turbo 3kgt/stealth tt, I'm sure.

They're very fun cars, and are realitively reliable so long as you don't beat the hell out of them all the time. They're heavy, but you'd never know it driving it. The V6 makes suprising low end torque, and the stock turbos come on very quickly. Gut the cats, get an S-AFC, get some used DSM 450cc injectors, and make a home made boost controller, and go run mid 12's on your all season tires.

Thank you steve, finally someoen who has driven one, and not just someone spouting numbers.

Insane3d, IIRC, the torque numbers are the same...300/320 ft/lb...

While they have little torque from 1-2.5k(probably around 200ft/lb), they instantly go up when the turbos kick.
