I am thinking about trying out airsoft, what type of gun should I get? I have no idea really what the terms mean in terms of power and whatnot. I was looking at aeg, gas blow back and electronic blow back and I really have no idea how any of them are. I really like the desert eagles look... hehe desert eagles are just cool. Also there are some of the m4s and stuff that are pretty cool. So what are your impressions of this sport good to get into?

Yes. Ask for advice elsewhere.

;) :p

j/k

I have no idea. I have airsoft guns but I don't play. They don't shoot straight.

Buy a cheap $20 springer pistol at your local sporting goods store (Wal-Mart has a few crappy ones, Big Five usually has some sort of good special going). I haven't ever 'played' airsoft but I have a few springers and they are fun to shoot at targets with and no lisence needed :)

for pistols gas blowback are the best ones (avoid electric ones), for larger guns (i.e. submachine guns, assault rifles, etc.) an electric one (aeg) is preferable

I was looking at the desert eagle and wow is it ever realistic looking. I am thinking I will probably get the Sig 552 or the AK47 Spetsnaz. This looks like it should be a way better game than paintball. How are those choices?

It can be, just remember to choose the people you play with wisely because one cheat can ruin the whole afternoon.

Like it was mentioned before, gas for pistols, electric for larger guns, even though I currently use a electric pistol.

How do you find the electric pistol? I am not sure why people say to veer away from them are they just plastic, and lacking in power?

Electric = Less Power per shot, more expensive (than spring), but you don't need to recock it after every shot.

And you don't have to buy new gas canisters, just recharge and go.

I used to play airsoft and if you get into it, expect to pay a lot of money. I had an M4 that cost around $400 and a gas powered Beretta that was about $80. A friend of mine had an MP5 and a Glock. With the gas powered guns, you don't need to get gas canisters for the most part, you buy the gas in a can and then you spray it into the bottom of the magazine where the canister is actually located.

You'll also need to get a pair of goggles or use a paintball mask. I had a balaclava and a pair of military-grade goggles. I also used urban camos. I was going to get a tactical vest but, unfortunately, the police decided our guns were a little bit too realistic... If you get a handgun, get a holster for it. Extra batteries for the AEGs is a good idea as you don't want to run out of juice in the middle of a firefight as well as multiple magazines so you don't have to refill all the time. Also make sure you have plenty of padding as the plastic BBs that are fired do leave a mark. I found the gas powered stuff hurts a heck of a lot more at closer ranges than the AEGs. Luckily, I was firing the gun when I found that out ;).

Also, if you are to play airsoft, do so out in the forest or some other area away from people. Unless you want to shoot up your own house.

BTW, if you get an airsoft gun, keep the orange painted tips on the guns. They're too realistic looking to take a chance.

Yeah I know they are very realistic looking... the ones in Canada do not have the orange markings on them though. Also the area I live is surrounded by dense forrests where the local club plays, though last time they were out they had a police helicopter circle around the area they were playing in (though it is BC so they were probably looking for grow ops). The electric guns dont hit as hard? Or the electric handguns don't? Are the electric handguns cheaply made? Because the gbb desert eagle I looked at was very sturdy (all metal) and looked just like the real thing... it was also somewhat more expensive than the electric ones which they didnt have any of at the shop.
