I wanna buy a Daewoo Leganza -- You tell me. Is it crap or a good value?

I would personally steer clear of any korean car. They are just not up to snuff quality-wise (although they are much better than they used to be). For the $ you'd be better off with a used honda civic, nissan sentra/altima, etc. Will save you many headaches and empty-wallet syndrome (thanks to repairs) down the road.

Also, check out consumer reports, edmunds.com, etc for reliability ratings of the various cars you're interested in before you buy.

good luck,
Fausto

NICkel: I think they are a good value, they come with a warranty better than most Japanese and American cars so just dont keep it longer than the warranty period if you are that worried about it. They are just economy cars, dont expect alot of luxury for that price, and you will be satisfied.

Pretty much what Fausto1 said. Take a look at this review at Edmunds.com or this one at MSN Carpoint.

I think you'd be a lot better off with a different car company.

I got a 98 Hyundai Elantra, its a pretty nice car. It even rides better and has a better feel than the 98 Civic that my mother has. I've driven it for about 5K miles now, havent had any problems. Admittedly, thats not a whole lot, but still not too bad.

I have a 2000 Daewoo Leganza. It drives pretty well. It has pretty nice semi-luxury stuff (alloy wheels, leather seats). If I had to choose over again though, I'd proabably go with something else. The whole fact that they're in financial trouble doesn't sit to well with me. :(

I loved the way the advertisements for the Leganza tried to compare it to the Lexus GS. That was a good laugh. Though I do see the Guigiaro similarities (ripoffs) from the GS.

i rented the daewoo nubira the other weekend, and IMHO, it SUCKED. it was like a very sh!tty civic. no power and struggled the entier time driving to Las Vegas from LA.

the leganza is a crappy car. my friend has one and he complains about it all the time.

get an accord or even a civic. honda has been around for a while, and is a great and reliable brand. i have an 1987 accord sitting in my garage that STILL gts 27 mpg. and it runs great too!

plus u can rice it up too. hehhe

If you think all Korean cars suck, then you have no experience with Hyundai. My wife has been driving an Elantra for the last 18 months, and it's an excellent car especially considering the price. We compared it directly to the Nissan Sentra, and it won hands-down in every category -- the Sentra is truly a crappy car (VASTLY underpowered and very shoddy looking, and this was the "special edition" or something!).

Yes, part of Hyundai had some financial problems lately, but the auto division is solid and has been bringing in gobs of revenue for the conglomerate. They were NOT bailed out by the Korean government. Hyundai is on the same level as Mitsubishi -- a monstrous comglomerate of companies involved in everything from automobiles to heavy shipping to computers.

I thought DaimlerChrysler were looking at buying Daewoo?
