I may consider going AMD this time around, because it appears AMD is kicking Intel's butt on all the Doom 3 benchmarks I've seen. SO, what's the latest and greatest boards (both Intel and AMD) for gamers?

Oh, and I should add the only piece of my current rig that I'm planning on keeping is my Radeon 9800XT

For gaming go with either the Athlon64 3000 or 3200. If you're a little more hardcore and want that extra 10-15% boost of dual channel get the 3500 and a Socket 939 board.

May I ask how much are you spending on your system?

After a certain thread in Hot Deals, I wouldn't be surprised if half these forums have a 3200 and are biased towards it now. *giggle*

hardocp.com for doom3 hardware guide, posted a billion times! or goto the front page of AT and look at the benchmarks and see what worked well.

Can not vouch for AMD but for Intel it most certainly does provide a 15% boost in performance.

I was under the impression the dual channel advantages of going from socket 754 to socket 939 was either nonexistant or 5-10%...but it is a lot greater for Intel systems, because they're starved for bandwidth.
