I haven't been to Chicago in about 5 years and even then it was just for 2 days to see the Red Wings play. I going to be driving there from Detroit so I don't need a plane ticket. I just need some advice on where to stay, what to see, and if anyone knows some good deals on hotels. I don't wanna be stuck in the ghetto like the last time I was there 🙂

I'll be there with the wife on the weekend of Valentine's Day. Probably a Friday-Monday thing. Thanks for any help.

Man.. There's a ton to see. Michigan Ave, the Lakefront, Sears tower, Hancock.. Hit the bars on rush and in Lincoln Park. You might want to head over to Bucktown and see where they filmed the Real World in Chicago. There's the museums, you could check out the house that Jordan built (The United Center on the west side). Soldier Field and definitely Navy Pier...

How long are you going to stay? When are you coming? What sort of hotel budget do you have? What are your interests other than sports? There's a ton to see. Also, It's not cheap to stay right downtown Chicago. You might be better off booking a sleep cheap on the outskirts and then driving in each day. Depends on your budget. Just to let you know, a friend of mine got married recently and his brother came in town and got a room right down in the loop. It was a very nice place, but nothing extravagant. Beautiful view of the mag mile (Michigan Ave). It cost him $250 a night. In your ball park? I don't think you'll be able to touch a room downtown for under $100.

Give me some more information and maybe I can help you out.

BTW.. I used to live in a suburb of Detroit. Actually, I grew up in Plymouth, Michigan. I used to head to Detroit quite a bit because my neighbors had a boat at the DYC. We'd go down for the hydroplane races every year, hit the CART race at Belle Isle and I was even at a few of the GP races back when they had them in Detroit back in the early 80's. Hope that doesn't date me too much. 😉 Going to Trappers Alley was always fun. Been to Cobo for many events including the auto show. Tiger Stadium when they won the World Series in '84. Silverdome in Pontiac for the Bears vs Lions on Tgiving. Don't forget the Pistons winning back to back championships in the late 80's. Mt. Brighton (featured in the movie Aspen Extreme) for weekday skiing and then Boyne and Nubs Knob (nice bumps) for the weekends in the winter. Oh.. There were always those trips over to Windsor Ontario to drink (and bring back) the 6% Canadian beer when we were still under 21. 😉 Memories... 🙂

Anyway... Heh.

I live just outside of the city but I like to go there when I get the chance. My suggestion is go to the Art Institue, well unless you dont like art. They have some really wonderful paintings and I thought it was just great to see. The Field Museum which is near soldiers field is really cool too, that is where Sue the dinosaur is. There is also the Museum of Science and Industry, they have some really great stuff there too but I cant recall off the top of my head where it is. There is the Lincoln Park Zoo if you like zoos. Of course there is Michigan Ave. which is an absolute must (while your there you have to go down to Billy Goats Tavern, trust me.) There are a ton of theaters in the Loop area if you wanted to stay there. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is right there too. Just book your tickets and reservations as soon as you can so they dont get sold out.

I forgot about CitySearch. I planned a trip to NY a couple of years back through them and they found some great prices. I'll be there with my wife Friday Feb,15th -18th. I'm looking at the Swissotel right now. It looks really nice and only about $100/night. Looks like a lot of places have rates from $100-$125 and I'd like to stay in that range.

The Swissotel is a really nice place. I used to work right next door to it 2 summers ago. Its a great location, about 2 blocks or so from Michigan Ave. It looked really nice from the outside but I was never on the inside.

I highly recommend that you go to Chicago this weekend instead of Valentines Day weekend. I think that the hotels around Soldiers' Field are pretty nice and if you wear Philadelphia Eagles appearal I'm sure you will be well received and enjoy your stay!

I was just there last weekend and the museums are the best! And make sure you buy some of the tube socks that people sell on the street. (Not sure why they sell socks.. oh well, maybe something in the socks?)

I would love to go this weekend but the schedule won't allow it. Plus I wouldn't know how to handle myself in a city that still plays football in January. 😀

<< Bring a sweater, I hear it's windy. >>

It's friggen cold here! Bring a a couple sweaters and a coat, and check the huge computer show at College of Dupage. 😀 There's lots to see and do. Good choice in citys by the way. 😉
