I am confused, North Face was a popular brand as long as I can remember seeing it (10 years ago?), it was always more of a fashion thing than an outdoor hiking wear type of thing.

It used to be about the best hiking/backpacking/expedition ware and gear made. Back when it was made in the USA. Then it got trendy in the late-80s/early 90s and they expanded the line into yuppyware. Then it got bought out by mega-corp and all but abandoned its original market. I have a NF rain jacket that I've been wearing fairly regularly since 1988 and it is still waterproof. The stuff was really well made. I'd don't get hung up about how many people are wearing the stuff, only that the stuff ain't what it used to be and hasn't been for a long time.

Anytime I would visit seattle it was like a north face commercial.

North Face has been very popular around here for at least two years now.

I see tons of people wear it.

It's to damn expensive for my taste but good quality at least.

I'm a rebel too, which is why I was pissed when I found out Macy's sells Levi Jeans. Like WTF? Now everyone is going to wear Levi's. What am I going to wear with my north face jacket and nikes?

Sounds sorta lame to me.

same thing i thought. if you like them, wear them. buy em at target if they start selling them, at least the price will be lower and youll save some cash. i have friends that wont wear stuff unless it came from specific stores. i call them store snobs. they call me ghetto for my jc penny pants. i could care less, i spent half what they did and my pants fit good, last a long time and look good to me.

I dropped $700 the other day on a Burberry raincoat. Am I going to wear it less because there are tons of little chicks running around with Burberry scarves and handbags?

Point is: if you like TNF then STFU and keep wearing it. If you think that it's now less desirable because Macys sells it then you're quite helpless.

I went in to a Burberry's once. Too expensive for my wallet.

Intro to the Burberry web site. WTF are they trying to sell ?

Heheh I skipped the video and looked at the front page - are they trying to sell the Charles Dickens look?

And honestly, how insecure do you have to be to consciously avoid what you've already admitted to be a fine product simply because other people also agree that it's valuable. Trying a little too hard to be a unique snowflake

There was a time when it wasn't as abundant as it is now.

Yeah, that was around 10 years ago.

They definitely have much better quality than NF. Most hardcore wilderness/climbing types around here prefer MH.

And the flock shifts direction...must have Mountain Hardware.

North Face started sucking about 14yrs ago or so when manufacturing went over seas. When it was made in the US the quality was 100%...no 300% better than it is now.
It also started to suck about 5yrs ago when EVERY fucking person started wearing it around town.

North Face is far from any type of harcore outdoor clothing company nowadays. Then went mass market, got their mass market and their quality now suffers from it.

You sound like a tool because NF wants to increase sales by expanding it's distribution and appealing to a larger base of consumers. You obviously didn't wear it for its outdoor capabilities, only because you wanted to be "cool", but are sad now that more people can be "cool" and wear North Face? Idiot.

I like North Face stuff on the merits and value. I usually get it about half price on sales.
I generally buy lightweight exercise stuff for NorCal weather, so I can't comment on mountaineering or winter clothing, but I am very satisfied with the NF stuff I have.

I know the feeling, I used to buy all those tap out rash guards to wear when I worked out. That way everyone could see how bad ass I was. I'd pay twice the price of the exact same rashguard at walmart, but it said tapout on it. Then one day, tap out lowered their prices and started selling in easier to get locations, now all the wannabes are wearing it, it sucks, now I have to wear sprawl.

Oh wait, I never did get on that trendy train. I just bought the fully functional 9.99 shirts from walmart for training, and let the idiots pay 60.00 to be trendy.

TNF still makes decent gear. Stuff like this sleeping bag (although at the same price, I would never buy that over Western Mountaineering)

Incorrect. If you would have read the whole thread and some of my responses you would have seen I wear it primarily for outdoor usage as I fly fish and hike in cold weather. And used to board. Please try again with your flame.
