I used the companies internet last night.

I brought my laptop with me to work last night because I wanted to finish some college work. Well I work midnight security on weekends for a mall and it gets quite boring. I have the keys to the management office and I'll go in there to do my work.

Well I was in last night and I had noticed that the company had a ethernet box on the floor and near the copier machine. I picked it up and I noticed that it had a extra line that ran out of the box. I hooked it up to back of my laptop and BAM... I was online!

I used the net to download a few research files, some music and I actually downloaded the demo for Unreal Tournament. I was hooked up for about 4.5 hours. I'd go do a quick round in the mall, come back and do work and browse the net.

It just hit me though that I might get in trouble for this. What are the chances? I don't know if it's monitored.

And if they do come to me and want me to pay how much would it cost? I just figured that they pay what I pay at home. I pay $60 a month and I get unlimited access to Comcast cable. I figured it was the same for them.

I guess I'll find out in a few weeks.

thanks.

Buisness connections!= home connections 😛

Anyway, it is more than likely not monitored, seeying as it sounds like you got online right away, it looks like they have set up just for the purpose you used it for, set up laptops on the line there, seeying as you have to do no configurations. More than likely if...and a big if, they notice such and such box was access last night, they will figure it was just an employee, which you are.

exactly. When they have their monthly meetings the big wigs will come down and they all have laptops. They all hook into that ethernet box.

it doesn't hurt to ask.

thanks.

In related news.. Several stores at the local mall were burglarized late last night. When on-duty janitor frantically called for help, mall security was nowhere to be found...

😀

Actually, my supervisor wanted me to sit near Gordon's jewlery last night. Malls in PA are being robbed by 4 guys with ski masks and high tech weapons. He told me that if they break in I should call local police immediately.

I told him he was crazy. How am I going to have to time to call the cops when I'm being pistol wipped.

Oh no it didn't. It was on your mind before you even plugged in. 😛

It's called a switch, and it doesn't sound like they have a security oriented Networking department (if they have one at all) You're probably fine. On our network you would not be able to connect heh
