I use my credit card for everything. Anyone else?

I use my Visa check card for just about everything. The only time I use my CC is for online purchases. And then I pay it off as soon as it shows up on my CC. I hate having a balance on my CC. :|

What bank charges you a fee to use their debit card?😕

in canada, Interac, your bank, and the out-of-network ATMs can all levy fees. it gets ridiculous, sometimes taking out $20 will end up being $23.

we do not use visa or mastercard for debit, only credit or prepaid credit.

i dont have a cc, but i thought you had to pay like 1/2% extra on top of every transaction? but you people are saving money by using one. 😕... humm

and my debit card, i don't think it rounds up to the nearest x... i dont get charged for using it.
maybe its different in US..

If you pay off your credit card balance within the grace period there is 0% extra that must be paid. Personally, I think that's the only to pay (of course there may be some emergency exceptions) because I don't know why I'd want to buy something and then elect to pay MORE for it than it actually costs by not paying it off quickly. 🙂

I've never seen Interac [Debit] itself levy fees. However, many local stores here charge fees for themselves when you use debit.

Out of network ATMs are ridiculous though. There is no BMO machine in my town, so I get dinged $3 anytime I want cash.

The way to go is goto Walmart and buy something tiny, then ask for cash back. Otherwise, you get screwed.

I'm kinda like the pizza delivery guy. I keep $20 or less on me at all times.

Everything that can go on a credit card does. My Chase Freedom card gives 3% back for eating out, gas, and groceries. I make at least 1% back on every card I have. I only wish that I could put my mortgage on there too. I pay them in full every billing period.

I use my CC for everything, just bought a new Nikkor lens from Amazon & took $150 off with GC's I earned with my points.

I pay it off every month. It's very convenient, but I don't raku disciprine! 😀

If you racku disciprine it's a fatal financial error.

bank card? you mean check card? I dont get charged anything for using that...It is tied to my checking account.

I also use my cc for everything as well, good rewards 😀.

Know what I didn't understand in Toronto? McDonald's only takes "debit", no Visa or MC.

Working at a gas station for the last three months I've come to realize something. As sad as it is that there are so many people who charge $2 bloody dollars on their card, it's even more obnoxious when the next person comes up and wants to take $2 out of a $20, or even a $100. WTH people, just because you have enough money for something doesn't mean you're special enough to deserve it. The absolute best though, it when someone tries to come in at 6:30 in the morning, right after we've had a shift change, and wants to pay with a $100. Naturally, to make them happy, we ask the other associates if they have enough $20s, which is always no, and so the guy will always forcefully drop his crap on the counter, push open the door hard enough for it to hit the stop, and walk out like it's his god given right to get whatever he wants because he has money.

Interesting note, it's always the guys using $100s, when they use a $20 for $1 drink they say sorry, but it's the women that are completely ignorant to the fact that we are not their own personal change machine.

I use my debit card for everything. No transaction fees and I enrolled in Keep the Change through Bank of America so annually I end up getting free money in my savings account.

How is it that having your bank round all your purchases up to the nearest dollar (thereby charging you more than cost), then putting that extra money in your savings acount "free money"?

Because they match 100% for the first 3 months and 5% after that.

Yes $250 max for $100%

With Credit Cards peaking at $200/$250 rewards to open... why not?

well they do have this gimmicky match the difference thing, but still, you gotta be a complete retard to use bank of america savings. their interest rate has been 0.20% for the longest time.

I pay for everything on my credit card except for small purchases (under $5) and rent.

Why?

  • Rewards, perks, incentives, no annual fees, etc.
Would you turn away free money?
  • The usual card benefits including but not limited to free 1 year extended warranty, 90 day returns, 90 day damage and theft protection, Car Rental Loss and Damage Insurance, Travel Accident Insurance and more!
  • I get a nice itemized statement every month and one payment to make per cc.
  • Credit (and debit) cards offer no liability protection against unauthorized transactions.
  • It helps establish and maintain an active and healthy credit history.
  • Again would you turn away free money?

Off the top of my head I charge car insurance, utilities, cell phone, internet, magazine subscriptions, lots of web hosting, etc. all to my credit cards.

How much do all these benefits and rewards cost me? $0

Make sure you have a credit card which has no annual fee and pay off your balance in full every month.

Last night I took my wife out for dinner which was charged on my Amex TrueEarnings earning a 3% cash rebate 🙂
Wow, if I pair this up with my AMEX green cash rebate I might break my yearly record of cash back. The wife charges about $2k/mo. in travel and eating out.

I use my CC for everything BUT meals (not including supermarket) unless I'm out of cash. Just hate having to pay the totalled amount of food over a month. That, and the dumps I like to occasionally eat from cash only; one just started allowing Mastercard, but I only have a VISA and will try my best to never change that.

Also, I try to keep all my CC purchases above $10 cause I feel "bad" that the store gets charged for the miniscule transaction, which shouldn't be my damn concern anyways.

I use my credit card for my purchases as it offers 1% cash back, a nice incentive. And I have a frequent flyer card that gives me bonus miles. Anything under $4.00 I use cash if I have it, otherwise I use my credit card.

I always pay off my balances in full every month.

I'm beginning to use mine for everything.

Had a problem charging food at the supermarket but now I am doing it.

I'll be rich.

I use my credit card for everything

And FYI, the Bank of America keep the change thing is not "free money" it's money that you already owned being put into your savings account from checking. A more effective way of getting "free money" is to empty your checking into savings and use your credit card for everything. Get 1%-3% cash back on all purchases (so there's free money right there) and get 5% APY on the savings account (more free money). At the end of the money check out your balance. Move that much money into your checking account from savings, pay off card the next day. Make sure your credit card has a grace period (Chase cards are at least 20 days after the statement) so you don't have to pay finance charges.

There are no fees or extra charges if you pay off the card within 20 days of the statement. I know some other cards are even 30 days. By using a credit card I'm also protected against online fraud, I can dispute charges at any time if, say, a seller never ships an item or ships it broken. I have the Chase freedom card, 1% cash back on everything and 3% back on restaurants/gas/groceries (which make up 90% of my spending).

It is only occasionally inconvenient when some restaurants or stores require a minimum purchase. Some stores also don't take credit for some reason (cheap mexican place I go to only does debit). Otherwise, I don't understand why someone would use a debit card instead of credit.

Also, my apartment complex (graduate student housing through the university) is talking about accepting credit card for rent payments. I'll be the first person signing up for that if they make it available!

if you buy something that costs 1.01 bucks, you get 99 cents into your bank account. If you buy something that costs 9.95 bucks, you get 5 cents to your savings account.

Yup. It was great when I could pay my college tuition with my CC. I had a Sony card back then, so I've received a PSOne, several DVDs, movie passes, alarm clock, digital camera, memory and photos for free. Still have enough to afford another camera, even though I stopped using the card for several years now.
