I upgraded to a BFG 6800 GS OC AGP

my card idles at 50ish and under load about 65. After a few hours of fear, bf2, etc., it sometimes gets to 70-71c! And that's with a zalman vf-700cu. My ambients are usually around 35 at idle and 41 at load.

ATI is generally known for its picture quality. I upgraded from 4200 to 9600, 3D looked better, about the same in 2D though.

Your comparing older generation cards with each other, the ti-4200 is even older than the 9600.

Under heavy load it hits 69C - 72C. The driver lists 120C as Core Slowdown threshold.

That's not as bad as some Newegg reviews...

Those are fine temps for me. Now, if I get artifacts or something seems funny, I'll start to worry. But even if it runs hot, as long as it runs normally, I'm not concerned. It may shorten lifespan, but I'm only planning to keep this computer for another year, a year and a half tops.

And for the good news: my card arrived! Looks to be in perfect condition, too. Haven't installed yet. In fact, it's not even open yet. I'll probably stick it in once I have some free time.
