Video cards in general are much better today. Not being able to notice is fine, but I always can. Its either a very (sometimes VERY) faint ghost, or just very slight movement. Something akin to being able to 'see' the difference between a 60hz screen and a 80hz CRT screen.
Pay close attention to subtle color gradients, and individual pixels in non-cleartyped text. If you still cant see a difference, good, you have a nice GPU working for you.
