Here's a funny one. The joke's on Microsoft! My laptop (T510) has the Win10 upgrade icon. When I click on it, this is what it tells me:
Whoa! Since I have the Win10 ISO on a DVD, I decided to try that. Same result if I let it check for updates. But! If I disconnect the Internet cable and use the DVD for direct upgrade of Win 7, it worked just fine. And here's a sample:
The neat thing is, when I put in the Win 7 SSD, there will be no MS attempt to upgrade, because it says "No Can Do." Amazing. Microsoft hoisted on its own petard. 🙂
That model came with an i5 or i7 didn't it? Had one for a few years. After a hard drive fail, a display fail, and an inner power short, I was reluctant to try another one. But my W530 has been a good laptop. Hilarious about that Windows 10 message though!
Yeah - it has an i5 cpu. It really was hilarious. First try with DVD resulted in "No" message after I let it connect to check for updates. Then, I decided to try it with no Internet and no connect check. Result? An easy Win10 Pro install - no problems at all. I later read where this is all caused by a bug in Microsoft's upgrade program. Lesson learned - if you have trouble installing, try it with no Internet access. 🙂
some evidence that Windows 7/8.1/10 "PRO" customers will be treated as priority by Microsoft.
the registry tricks work well.
if we're annoyed by the automatic downloads of 7/8.1-Win10 upgrade option, imagine non-Win10-pro customers getting random updates/restarts unless they completely disable Win10 updates or use tweaks until the computer is in a state/time frame to receive them from the end user standpoint.
