I understand "Likes" but what is "Points"?

Obviously, your "Likes" total increases by one when someone "Likes" one of you posts. What does the "Points" total represent?

Points represent the totality of your self worth. Everything you've ever accomplished in life, all the good you've brought into the world, minus the evil you've wrought is reflected in your point count. The Catholics call this merit, the Buddhists call it karma, ATOT calls it points.

It's all a very carefully crafted way of psychologically keeping you on "the platform" so that the cash flow rolls in. LOL! Facebook, I believe was the first to achieve this strategy.

I don't really give two shits about likes and points though.

HAHAHA

I understand points in the context of how people give themselves over to social climbing and such, but in the context of Anandtech Forums I'm totally mystified what's going on with that total.

I can understand wanting to be liked. But accumulating points is a fool's endeavor in life. Maybe if you are playing a game it makes sense but a lot of the games people play... well, Joe South said it as well as anybody:

You get a trophy at 100 likes. :cocktail:
OMG, I thought you were maybe kidding. I picked up 2 likes over night and am right now at 100. This morning when I came here I had an alert that I got my trophy, it said "Aren't you precious!" Dripped with sarcasm, which is appreciated. Still don't have the slightest idea what the points total is about.

Its part of the new kinder, gentler ATOT. An attempt to appeal to millennials who need trophies for everything - even posting nonsense online

Likes and points are both fucking stupid. If you can't dislike a post, there should not be a like. Better yet, have no option for either.
