I turned in my Man card and bought a mini-van

We are planning another kid very soon, so I thought of planning ahead and bought a 2008 Honda Odyssey EX for everyday driver.

The gas mileage sucks, but I was told that it will get better after the first oil change.

I traded in my 2002 Ford Explorer Sport Trac.

My truck was getting only about 17mpg (70% highway usage).

The sticker says 25mpg on highway, but currently it's not true. I'm hoping it will get better.

Anyone else have an experience with Honda Odyssey?

I have 1 currently. We are planning to have just 1 more. It's so nice not to have to bend over to put the kid in childseat.

honestly, with just 2 kids, you should've went with something smaller and more fuel efficient.

Why do you need a minivan for two kids? I'd think three at a minimum, which is why I'll never be subjected to one.

Only two kids. I would have gone with the Pilot. It's pretty much an Odyssey.

Having that much room is amazing.
Lot of times, on weekends, we go places with my wife's brother's family also. It's nice to take 1 car. Carrying 7 passengers without space problem..

My 4 year old kid loves it also. Mini-van's ride very nice and smooth.. Love the remote controlled sliding doors..

Originally we weren't going to get a minivan, but with the trade-in, we got a nice deal..

Toss in Grandma and Grandpa or a couple friends and you appreciate that easy to reach third row.

3rd row seating in an SUV like a Pilot is a joke.

Hey, you don't need to justify to anyone why you bought the vehicle. Some folks on here want to make anyone who doesn't own an Aveo or its ilk feel guilty.

of course he can do whatever he damn well pleases, but i am talking about rising fuel costs, and not driving a whale if you don't have to so you can save some serious cash.

but you knew that.

we got an '05 last year, it's an LX though. I didn't care much for the power doors anyways. The 05 set the safety standard for minivans and hasn't been surpasses since, IIRC. good buy IMO.

CRV and Rav 4 gets about same as the minivan..
If it gets what it's suppose to get on gas mileage, it's better than my old truck..

Thanks Funkymatt

Are you kidding me, Mosh? That's your argument. We are talking about a vehicle that gets mid-20s versus a vehicle that gets low to mid-30s. That's not going to be a huge difference in cost.

sure it is @ 4 bucks a gallon... and counting.
where do you think it will end up? 6, 7, 8 bucks/gallon?

and if you read the OP it says the vehicle is not even getting mid-20s

You can do that in an SUV too... just not the Sportrac.

Power sliding doors is definitely sweet for bulk items though... like kids. 😀

Well, he can do whatever he wants, it is his money...but he's already bitched about gas mileage and last time I checked most small cars could fit 5 passengers. My parents never owned anything larger then a chevy corsica while my two siblings and I were growing up and I don't recall ever suffocating to death in the back seat.
