I turned an electric motor into a speaker

I hooked up a small 12v electric motor into a radio amp. it plays music pretty clear amazingly. I captured a few videos of it in action, check here http://web.njit.edu/~axs5902/vids/. the led is just for show, it blinks according to the music, pretty cool huh?

BTW, there are NO SPEAKERS playing while those vids were made. all the sounds you here is JUST from that one motor.

tweakmm, do u have any info on what the guys at MIT used? i want to try and use an old car alternator and a powerful amp, see what sort of sound it can put out...

it was posted on /. a couple months ago, some guys at MIT made this HUGE ass subwoofer. lemme dig around for a link

Kinda like Servo Drives. Motor Driven Sub-Woofers. 114dB Sensitivity at 16 Cycles (Hz).
Let me tell you, you really need a very BIG place, or well treated area to use those effectively! Otherwise, you're in danger of making people sick to their stomach, or can shake a building pretty hard!

well the antenna is broken and just tuned into the strongest station. video's 4 and 5 are pretty loud. im gonna try to build some sort of encloser for the motor to enhance the sound.

holy cow..i attached the motor to a tin plate and the sound is pretty loud...cant really tell it apart from a true speaker. expect something cool a little later..
