I haven't given since, I kinda feel bad they keep sending me letters asking for blood (O-) but I can't very well feel week for 3 days afterwards...

Yeah I'm pretty much in the same situation. i have O- blood too, and they call every two weeks saying there's a huge shortage... but last time I gave blood I had to stay on the bed for like an hour because I was so light headed...

took me about 3 minutes to fill a pint, i dont even have high bloodpressure. The lady was amazed, said that's some sort of record.

Anyway, you should'nt commit suicide. i'm sorry for expressing my opinion.

My blood pressure is fine and I am O+ . I thought they might just wait it out for my blood. I guess not. But if I commit suicide I won't be able to use my free stamps! :(

Are you a girl? or a very small guy? I'm talking like around 100 lbs...

Also you mentioned not working out. That makes it harder as well. Working out and being really fit helps. In high school I could fill my quota in about 2 mins. Now it takes me closer to 5. You can try to drink lots and lots of fluids before. But basicaly, you'll probaly have problems all the time.

Dont worry, its the thought that counts. I've always wondered why they dont just take extra blood from bigger ppl like me as I'm sure I can fill more than that little bag.
=)

I dont think blood pressure matters either, atheletes have low blood pressure. I've been asked if I was feeling ok once coz my blood pressure was below normal and my pulse was really low, still did the bag in 2 mins.

I overheard a nurse talking with another donor time before llast about the same thing and Red Cross is looking into taking blood based on weight of the person.

When i was in HS they never took blood from anyone under 120lbs. They weighed you if you looked underweight before giving blood.

It takes me about 5 minutes to donate a pint. But, they don't let me do whole blood anymore because they like my platelets and that procedure takes me about an hour and half.

All you weenies complaining about 10 - 20 minutes, doing what I do involves having a needle in each arm, body temperature drops a few degrees, you lose some minerals (get this funky metallic taste in your mouth) and again takes me on average 90 minutes.

By the way getting paid for a 'donation' is not donating. Most of that plasma that comes from paid 'donations' is usually used for some medical production and not put into people a la transfusion.

Hmmm, I spent four months in the UK and ate beef numerous times. Does anyone know if that would disqualify me?

After all, we can't have me giving everyone TEH MADCOW DISEASE.

Yes, you're disqualified.

Along with anyone who has been to prison for more than 72 hours (me), is homosexual or has done a homosexual act, or was in some country in like 1972 for some reason.

Persons who have spent long periods of time in countries where "mad cow disease" is found are not eligible to donate.

Marijuana, "Weed", "Pot"
Acceptable as long as you are not under the influence of marijuana at the time of donation.

Interesting!

Lame. :frown:

I guess I have another excuse to be selfish though.

I love donating blood! I've got my 1 Gallon pin. Can't wait to get my next one!

I almost went to work for the Red Cross, about a month before 9/11, but instead took a job doing tech support for Dell. Worst. Mistake. Evar. *shudders* I'm still scrubbing off the "dirty" feeling, and it's been 2 years since I worked there.

I have pretty low blood pressure (typically 105/60 or so) and I workout, but I give very quickly. I don't think it's ever taken me more than 6 minutes, usually around 5.

I'm a guy. 5'10" 180lbs. I used to work out, heck I was in the Marine Corps! So I'm not a small guy. I guess you could say I'm average build. So my weight/size wouldn't really come into play here. I'll try again next time and see what happens.
