I tried everything that I could think of......but still no go! MY OPTICAL DRIVES ARE STILL IN PIO MODE!

I've tried to:

1- disable legacy audio drivers in safe mode, but my DVDROM and CDRW still runs in PIO mode.
2- Enable DMA setting in the Bio, but will become disabled again once I save/exit the bios
3- Enable DMA setting through Windows......of course it didn't work either
4- Uninstalled PowerDVD, CDRWIN, Nero.......of course this didn't work
5- Install the 4.60 ASPI drivers for win xp.......of course this didn't work
6- Pulled out my ATI ALL IN WONDER TV PCI......of course this didn't work
7- Uninstalled all audio drivers for SB LIVE! 5.1/ALL IN WONDER TV.......of couse this didn't work
8- Switch PCI slot for SB Live! 5.1........of course this didn't work
9- Pulled out SB Live! 5.1 card......of course this didn't work
10- Pulled out Promise ATA66 controller........of course this didn't work
11- Pulled out my Aopen 56k modem...........of course this didn't work
12- Set my P3 800@930 back to default speed.......of course this didn't work
13- Switch DVDROM and CDRW from the secondary IDE port to the Primary port......of course this didn't work
14- Set the DVDROM or CDRW as the only drive on the IDE port......of course this didn't work
15- Disable Digital CD Audio feature.....of course this didn't work
16- ETC>>>ETC>>>>ETC>>>>ETC>>>>ETC>>>>ETC>>>>>grrrrr

I am really pissed off right now.......I donno what is wrong! UDMA works fine with my HDs...but DMA wont work on my optical drives! OMG! I have a Samsung 5x/32x DVDROM, YAMAHA 8x/8x/24x burner. DMA used to work.....but I donno what I did to make it not work! PLEASE HELP!

I am using the Asus CUSL2 mobo running WIN XP Home edition! PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!

what is your onboard parallel port set to?mine only works if set to ecp+epp in bios on cusl2-c

if set to anything else it is a b@@@@ to get dma enabled also are you running the chipset drivers
for the intel storage driver( applicable to me as wont enable dma without it in xp)

and my dma setting in bios is ecp dma select 3

after that beyond my scope sorry

hope this helps

Hey.
Make sure to update your motherboard drivers from http://usa.asus.com/inside/downloadmap.htm
and after doing that, install the latest windows updates like the burner compatibility update.

Then go to device manager, go to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers,
select secondary IDE channel, advanced settings, and select DMA if available for the two drives.

Basically, download as many driver updates as you can.
Hope this helps, and I hope you didn't go through this already.

All you have to do is disable the legecy(sp) support in device Mgr. for your sound blaster live card. I had the same problem and am suprised that nobody could figure it out.

Opps I guess I should read passed the first line of the post.

Are the jumpers on the drives set correctly?

Hmm... I am using Win2k and I have found the legacy audio (drivers?) entry for the SBLive in the device. Question is, how do I remove it? I have the same problem (on my secondary IDE controller) with my DVD and CDRW drives not working in DMA mode. However, I have a Asus P3BF mobo that has a bx chipset. No one else seems to have my problem. Latest bios is on it as well (1006).

Install the Intel UltraATA storage driver... That fixed the same problem for me. I had a CUSL2-C.

<< Install the Intel UltraATA storage driver >>

conversely if you've installed it & having the problem, uninstall it!

I am having pretty much the same problem as RKAltimas01 on one of my friend's PC's, except this only happens for me with the DVD drive. The CD-RW and hard drives both have DMA enabled. The HD is on the primary IDE controller (master of course), the DVD is secondary master, and the CD-RW is secondary slave. The computer uses an AMI BIOS. There doesn't seem to be a setting in the BIOS to turn on or off DMA. Also, I downloaded the Intel Application Accelerator for Windows XP. For some reason, after doing this, Application Accelerator said that the DVD drive was using DMA. However, in the Device Manager, it still said PIO mode, even though DMA was selected. Very strange. Any other suggestions on how to fix this?? I haven't yet tried switching the DVD drive to the primary IDE controller, but I'll give that a shot next time I'm over there.
