I took the plunge and made the switch from wireless to wired

I've been using a wireless keyboard and mouse for well over 5 years... however, after having my keyboard run out of batteries in the middle of a BWL boss fight last week, I decided to make the switch.

I bought a logitech G15 keyboard, which is great, and a G5 mouse which is, well... not. I'm kinda stupified by the lack of buttons on it. there's just a single thumb button and the tilt wheel. I guess I'm just way too used to my current mouse, which has 2 thumb buttons and an additional 3 buttons on the mouse surface that can be programmed for anything. I also really hate the plastic its made from... it's got this weird texture, and I totally can't tell the difference between laser and optical, even in FPS's.

so I'm going to return the G5, but anyone have any recomendations for what to get instead? I was thinking about an MX518, but are those 3 top buttons actual function buttons or are they just dpi adjustment buttons like the two on the G5?

I, too, went back to wired - simply because I got tired of dealing with batteries. Granted, I could have gotten a more expensive mouse with a recharging station, but it's just a mouse, and I have a hard time justifying more than $20 for such a device.

I love the G5, being able to accurately move across 3840 horizontal pixels in an inch of movement is great.

The G15 is decent, but nothing spectacular. Backlit keys are a godsend though.

Oh man I just ordered the G5 the other day and it should arrive tomorrow. I was concerned about the lack of thumb buttons on the G5 but people have been saying that you can program the side tilting wheel to be your back and forward or whatever commands. The G5 has a up/down and side to side tilt wheel, while the MX510 and MX518 only have up/down. I will see how it goes. If I don't like it, I'll simply return it. How is Zipzoomfly on returns? They do charge a 15% restocking fee.

got mine from amazon... I think I'm going to give it a week and see if the lack of index finger mouse buttons really bothers me or not. maybe it'll just take some adjusting. I had one button set to minimize all and another to ctrl+tab, so I'm just really used to having those functions availible easily.

The MX510 is my absolute favorite mouse, followed by the MS Explorer (old version). I think the MX518 is an upgraded version of the 510 with the same button layout.

Aside from spacebar quirks, the Logitech diNovo keyboard is fantastic, wouldn't go back to anything else. I do, however, have a spare keyboard/mouse nearby for when battery power dies.

The MX518 is awesome. The +/- DPI buttons can be programed to other things and then you can have the mouse settings revert to the default for when you are playing games.

I like the MX1000. The battery goes several weeks between charges and there's no lag that I can notice, even in rocket arena.

The arrow buttons on the MX5XX series are page up and page down buttons. The third one is a user definiable button that will be disabled if you dont install the software. If you do install the software, you can rebind them all.

can the dpi buttons be reprogrammed on the G5 as well? that would probably solve all my issues. lol. didn't have a chance to play around with it too much before bed last night.

i agree with the texture of the g5. it feels really weird, almost slimy or something. i think i've gotten used to it now though.

Idk, you'd have to look over the settings in SetPoint.

About four months ago I went from wired to wireless.

In 1999 or so I bought a wireless Keyboard/Mouse combo and was putting batteries in it once a week. I hated it. I switched back ASAP.

So I waited a few years. I purchases a combo again but this time from Microsoft. It has been working great. I love it. Haven't had to put batteries in either the keyboard or the mouse yet.

The fewer the wires the better. My desk at work is so much cleaner/neater with the wireless setup.
