I like Facebook, it allows me to keep up with friends, and especially family. My entire extended family (both sides) lives in Baltimore -- we're the only part of the family in NC. So I use it to post pics of our new son so they can see him, and see pictures of my many cousins and their family.

And while I talk with my friends that live cross country on the phone, seeing pictures of them and their travels is always fun. I hadn't seen my buddy that moved to Seattle in nearly two years, but Facebook allowed us to keep I contact (thankfully, I got to see him last month when he came back for a wedding).

I dunno, I guess I just don't understand the Facebook hate. Some people just like hating on shit just to hate. First it was hating on MySpace, then it was Facebook, then Twitter. Now it's "cool" to hate on Pinterest and Instagram.

We get it, you don't like popular sites/tools... get over yourself and move on.

huh?

Were you talking to me or just to...well...who were you talking to?

Some of us would kill to have friend requests. I've been removed/ignored from so many users of Facebook that I feel like harming myself sometimes. I once requested 40 people who I knew on a day to day basis, and only 3 accepted and 2 removed me within the hour once they placed a picture with my name. The last person just said thanks for the add. :(

I'm tempted to start a Facebook account just so you can add me.

I disabled mine about a month ago, mostly out of privacy concerns. I like that it is kind of a global white pages for looking people up to get in touch though. There are lots of upsides but the privacy issue made it almost lethal for me when my friends started posting to my wall (with the best of intentions) stuff that I saw as potentially damaging. Governments, employers, insurance companies, and god knows who else can datamine that stuff and use ti against you.

Not you, just haters in general :)

It just seems as though every few weeks we get a thread extolling the shittiness of Facebook :)

Facebook is great. if used in moderation.

i talk to my dad if he is on (rare) and its great to keep up on the little things family does that don't live near me.

Since my daughter is on a gymnastics team and travels a lot we post video's of events and results. The grandparents don't always get to drive the long distance to watch.

Now i have a niece that post EVERY fucking thing she does. i finally had to not show her updates because if i didn't it was all i got. like i give a shit what a 14 yr old is doing every minute of her day lol.

I just returned to facebook after a 2 week break from it. I didn't miss it that much, and I was glad for the break. Sometimes I'll get into a habit of spending too much time on Facebook, but now I have been forgetting about it all together after taking that break.

Yeah, I gotcha. I could "quit" Facebook and lead a normal life, but it's like a living, breathing entity of its own that's fun to watch.

You can lock down most of the stuff, for example I have mine set to not allow anyone but me to post on mine, anything tagged has to be reviewed before being posted, only friends of friends can send friend requests, etc.

Gotta love the Facebook hate, like it's not a valid medium to communicate with others. Sure, a lot of people are annoying with their status updates but that's why you don't add every Tom, Dick and Harry you've ever walked past in your life.

I never even made one for the reasons you pointed out and more lol, If someone is a part of my life then i'll be in contact with them otherwise I don't need acquaintances from past and present knowing my life or nor do I give two craps about what they do on a daily basis.

call me weird but I bow out of the 'social networking' bs...

You're not the only one.

This is true, I've noticed however that when FB makes changes to stuff those settings are often reset to the very careless defaults. Also, there are ways around the privacy settings and now that the company is publicly traded, they can't be trusted.
