Pending Draft Legislation Targeted for Spring 2005
The Draft will Start in June 2005

There is pending legislation in the House and Senate (twin bills: S 89 and HR 163) which will time the program's initiation so the draft can begin at early as Spring 2005 -- just after the 2004 presidential election. The administration is quietly trying to get these bills passed now, while the public's attention is on the elections, so our action on this is needed immediately.

Does this sound kinda funny to anyone else?

College and Canada will not be options. In December 2001, Canada and the U.S. signed a "smart border declaration," which could be used to keep would-be draft dodgers in. Signed by Canada's minister of foreign affairs, John Manley, and U.S. Homeland Security director, Tom Ridge, the declaration involves a 30-point plan which implements, among other things, a "pre-clearance agreement" of people entering and departing each country. Reforms aimed at making the draft more equitable along gender and class lines also eliminates higher education as a shelter. Underclassmen would only be able to postpone service until the end of their current semester. Seniors would have until the end of the academic year.

If you believe this then you'd be too stupid to be drafted anyway. The military doesn't need a draft to find bodies, they already have enough to fill up to their Congressionally authorized force limits. The problem is that Congress has set the force limits too low, I think currently the army is capped at 450k personnel or so. Congress could easily raise authorized personnel strength to 600k or so in the army and not need a draft, heck they could double it and still not need a draft. You only need a draft when you're trying to get a few million bodies in uniform, not a few thousand.

I guess my dad's best friend went over there in 1995 because he though it was a nice vacation spot? And I completely understand the hardships you've endured with your friends going into the military. 7 more of my friends enlisted this year, 3 are going into the Navy(1 attending Annapolis), 2 are going into the Air Force, 1 is going into the Army, and 1 is becoming a Marine. They know there's a possibility, especially with the current conflict going on, that they could possibly be shot at, injured, and or killed while serving their country. And that it's a very real possibility that they may have to kill. This is what every person should know and expect when serving in the Armed Forces.

No wonder everyone hates our generation. Because fvktards like yourself give us such a bad name.
