I used to work long hours all the time but these 60 hours weeks have been getting to me. Sure it doesn't help that this is the busiest time of year for our small business and the weekends have been full of all kinds fun things like deck staining, helping my mom move, long hours driving etc

Still I've had longer work weeks before so I guess the ravages of age have started in on me. Or I am just not used to it because it is 2 months instead of 3 years but its probably the age thing

If you're not getting paid for OT, I'd look for another job if possible. Remember, you're the CEO of You, Inc. and your goal should always be maximizing profit (your income) by minimizing your material (time) expenses. :D

Oh no I am getting a lot of OT for this and I volunteered because: money and "Psh - I used to work 80 hours a week at two full time jobs for years. Two months at 60 hours AND OT? Piece of cake"

So while it will lead to some more retirement, vacation and toys money I don't think I'll volunteer for as much time next year

You might get hit by a bus today. Your last thought shouldn't be "Fuck! I squandered my life :^( "

I'm lucky and get paid overtime as well (42 hour work work) which isn't all that common for engineers. I went years doing the same 60-70+ hour work weeks, skipping vacations, etc. I finally got to the point where I just couldn't do it anymore. Yeah, it's less money but I have no desire to go back to those kinds of weeks. I let the younger engineers that have $125k college loans work the insane hours and I spend more time with the family.

This is only temporary. This too shall pass. Have no fear. You will emerge victorious. You have the strength to keep going, even if it doesn't feel like it sometimes. Even if it doesn't feel like it right now. Trust that the stength to keep going is only hidden from you temporarily. Good luck. We know you'll make it through this. Thank you for your effort. We really do appreciate it.

Oh, if you're getting paid and it is voluntary, no problem.

It wouldn't be which is one of the reasons I took the hourly job with no after hours support and no weekends

Crap - you've got a change request don't you?

sounds like you need a vacation.

But if you take a vacation and then come back to work all relaxed and within 1 day all that stress and tiredness comes back, it might be time to start looking for another job.

Its the last week of this. Monday is back to my regular 40 hour work weeks. They do take pretty good care of us here too
