I thought the 2001 Civics were not available in SI?

Am I wrong? The honda site seems to think that they are available...? How are they performance wise?

Also are the 2001 models available with side airbags? It seems like an option in the US, but what about Canada?

There is no 2001 Civic SI. I really wish they would have kept the hatchback (Heard it might be back as a new SI or Type-R).

Id rather have the SI than side airbags. if your gonna get hit, youre gonna get hit.

solution, make civic fast enough where objects are in the rear view mirror at all times🙂

No way man! I've seen what happens when somebody without a side air-bag gets T-boned by an SUV. Its not pretty, ie. head goes towards grill of SUV as grill comes through your window. SUV drivers scare me! The 2001 Civics have incredible safety ratings for their size.

Skoorb is right on target. You NEED side airbags. I won't even look at a car w/o side airbags. Not only does the jolt your head receives from a side impact damn near kill you, you've got the issue of the car that impacted you may potentially cause you to hit your head on it as it crashes through your door.

So, side bars, and side impact airbags. Anything less would be... stupid.

Frankly I didn't care at all about them until I saw a show on them. Standard safety tests in the US are done with blocks or weights in these testing environments which are the same height as a sedan - they ignore SUV heights. Since there are more and more SUV drivers out there its a concern. Generally as a SUV t-bones a lower down vehicle it smashes through their window and the lucky passenger gets their head dashed against the SUV's bumper.

Although not a great number of people to use as statistics it had two individuals in seperate crashes and one had side air bags and the other didn't. The side air bag person had a bruised shoulder versus paralysis in the other person. Smaller cars are not too safe against large ones but when I learned that at least some Civics have side air bags it actually made me start looking at them again as a potential buy. If I buy a car without them then it will always be in the back of my mind that I scimped on safety to save a bit of money.

True they may have, and I really like volkswagens... but a civic is probabaly more in the price range I was looking at...personally I'd like to spend the same amount of money on a 1-3 year old vehicle and squeeze into something a little nicer, but I really want side air bags 🙂

heh, well the jetta was pretty nice, but it got old pretty quick for a 2 year old model😛 The new 2001 model has more torque and better mileage🙂 its 1.7l instead of 1.6 from b4 too, so when they do ocme out with an si, it should be sweet🙂 Then again it took 6 years for the SI to come out for the last generation.

the honda site is correct😛

that and saving money on old models isn't worth it😛 Gotta be up to date with the safety features🙂

I don't see why Honda doesn't want to release the Type-R Civics/Accords around here. Would be very nice IMO
