I thought Q9650 Prices were Dropping Today

I doubt youll see it at that level any time soon. Do you over-clock at all? You can take the 9550 to 3ghz easy.

i have been looking for a micro-ATX board to go with it.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813131336

that's for the Asus P5Q-EM. it has the 945 chipset & will take 4 GB
RAM modules for 16 GB total.

the MSI 6150 "FID" board was a super-popular micro-ATX board about
2 generations ago. but i haven't seen any board stand up as a classic
micro-ATX board, for this current generation of Intel processors.

i have overclocked, but i usually run at stock speeds. i believe you about the 9550.
but the 9650 for the same price, 3 GHz stock, stable, can run 24/7. JEEZ ! 😀

i coulda sworn i saw an article, Digitimes etc., price cuts 4th quarter,
9650 dropping from $500-whatever to $300+.

Like you're going to notice a difference between a quad @ 2.83GHz and a quad @ 3GHz...

"4th quarter" doesn't mean the first possible day, it means any time from now until New Year's. Most likely when Nehalem goes on sale, which is expected some time in November.

Where is the link stating a price drop on the Q9650?

I would very much like one of those babies, so this is of interest.

If you are not going to do crossfire the Asus P5E VM HDMI is still the best matx Intel board out there.

for the same price you can get better.

hmmm... i am extremely confused, in canada the prices of the q9550 have gone up from 339cdn a few weeks ago to now ~400cdn+ and the q6600 prices have also gone up about 20 bucks as well.... Just when i decide to upgrade from my e6600 all these quads suddenly jump in price 🙁

Not for microatx

And don't say the DFI board is better, because it isn't, and I am saying this from first hand experience. If you are really jonesin for crossfire in matx, then its the only option.

If there is a better option for non-crossfire users, please enlighten us. 😉

anyway, we sort of hijacked this thread....when is the next Intel price cut anyway?

I really would love a cheap Q9650.

Count me in for a pair of $300 Q9650s, whenever that happens. Hell, I should buy four and upgrade all my rigs. That would be insane. Hopefully my GA-P35-DS3R v1.0 will support.

CDN$ went down the toilet compared to US$, fell more than 20% in a matter of months. And Canadian hardware prices are tied to US$. Bummer...

the cdn$ is tied to hardware prices? how does that work?

I didn't say that, read it again 🙂
It's quite simple: say for Q9550, the price per 1000 units is US$316. ATM US$316 ~ CDN$385 and you'll be paying upwards of this unless the store was foresighted and stocked lots when the loonie was stronger.

iCyborg is bang on.

For some horrible reason, CND has dropped drastically, & of course, that means our pricing on hardware skyrockets :frown:

I was very happy when our dollar was on par or better than the USD for that little bit, as our pricing was great.

Now it's back to being crap...

I would love a cheap Q9650, but i've yet to see anything stating a pricedrop will happen them...

ah sorry iCyborg, I mixed the two terms while i was typing.... have to finish a novel for tmrw so i am pretty tired, been reading the novel all day long

it's related to the exchange rate. the Canadian dollar has been falling
vs. the US dollar the last few months.

Gotta love that falling oil when you are a net importer (US). Not so much if you are a net exporter (Canada, Russia, Venezuela, etc).
