I thought gas prices were going higher.........

But for whatever reason prices seem to be down 20 cents near me (new york) for regular while premium is still the same. i use premium so I'm still not happy.

I really dont understand..........

The pipleine was just a minor blip on our oil scene. (1) That pipeline wasn't carrying much of the oil we use, (2) BP found out it didn't need to fully close that pipeline making the problem half of what it originally thought it would be, and (3) we can just get the oil from other ways. Plus, the problem isn't oil; oil inventories are doing quite well. The real problem is gasoline refining.

It was mostly just news hype.

I believe gas prices have gone down because of the recent plane scares. Less flights = less used oil.

must be a conspiracy

Don't worry and don't get used to it.. Gas prices will rise back up again.. its almost time for school and the Labor Day holiday is coming shortly.. plus due to the fact cooler weather will be on the way..
I heard Sadaam let out a fart in the court room the other day (WMD).. better raise gas prices...

That can be true or it can be false. If people still travel, then less flights = more driving = more oil used. But if people stop travelling, then you are correct.

And yes, it was just news hype. CNN article discussing the BP news hype.

- BP was able to keep half of their production capacity for the oil pipeline
- OPEC said they were going to be making up for the lost production
- Summer is ending so demand is going down
- Summer is ending so the gov't mandated summer blends are going to be going away. These blends increase the cost of gas.

Plane gas != car gas

Two completely different products.

Yes, they come from the same material. Afterwards they are seperated at the refinery and are completely different products. The increased or decreased demand for plane gas would only slightly affect the price of gas because (as iamwiz pointed out) car gas is by far the #1 product to come from a barrel of oil.

Hasn't really dropped at all in California.
But once again this is California.
You know I fail to see how great California is if we have to resort to prostitution (to petrochemical companies) to live.

40 cents higher? I've seen it 20-25 cents higher than regular but never 40. That is just....strange.

The pipeline did not affect the prices simply because it's BP's fault.
Not spotting problems like this when you have sonar equipment available that do the detecting from inside the pipe while it's still working.....

Oh well, they lose cash on this, not us, for once...

I wouldn't call it "lose" cash I would say they just don't make as much profit is all.. they are always making money with these prices.

I am glad that they are not...its just a scam to grab more of our $$$ with whatever excuse they can think of
