I thought DHL closed their American business.

I seem to remember DHL getting out of the American market about 6-12 months ago.
If so, how is NewEgg using them for my free shipping?

I think parts of DHL are still around, just not all of it. Newegg's DHL service is delivered via the postal service. DHL takes the packages to a certain point and then turns them over. DHL seems to be moving packages around, just not final delivery (i.e. no delivery trucks).

I was wondering about that. When I was in my local post office last week mailing taxes there was a DHL semi-truck unloading...

I think they ended consumer shipping business. They're still around for corporate bulk shipping (alternators?), but regular people can't ship stuff around using DHL.

Yes, they still have DHL Globalmail which Newegg uses (though they don't tell you that, aka Egg Saver). It's like Fedex Smartpost, but with the tasty DHL suckiness included. Like when they took my package from Jersey, flew over Detroit (where they have a distribution center) and dropped it off at the post office in some Chicago suburb. Morons. I hate them. Hatethahahahahatehatehatehate.
