I don?t intend to make it a gamer, or over clock anything, I just want to open enough applications and web pages I need to do my research and work.

If I need more ram than 512MB, I will pick up another stick, with the motherboard I?ve selected, it will support Dual Channel.

How about it, will this work?

Sounds like overkill, $42 board + $50 CPU +$10 shipped for a cooler would suffice while leaving enough cash to get that second 512mb stick of ram now if you like. Be certain the HDD is a 8mb cache model too.

I know all he wants is something to run desktop applications, but I figured the smart thing to do is atleast have a bit of head room for an upgrade later to the newer generation if he wanted too. The solution above is only pennys more. Hey, if AMD is giving ample opportunity, might as well take it. As for socket A, it ends with the 200 dollar 3500XP.

I got that HD in Seagate. I don?t think I will go with second 512mb stick of ram right now, I may add it in later.

No. I want a simple motherboard with both:
Onboard Video and Audio, I don?t want booming surround sound speakers taking up room. If I want to watch a CD Movie, I will just plug in a headset to listen.

Thank you all, who?ve been helpful.
