I've been using this Redken shampoo (supposedly one of the best shampoos out there) which gives your hair proteins and reviatalizes, etc.

Maybe I never noticed it before, but when i look at my hair in the mirror, I have big chunks of dead skin cells trapped in my hair. If i look even closer, I have dandruff. I never had dandruff problems, so I don't know if this shampoo is helping me by eliminating all the dead skin cells from my scalp.

To top it off, right near the front hairline, it gets itchy from time to time. I look in the mirror, and there's a patch that is "oozy". Am I being paranoid?

it's not as bad as it sounds, none of it is noticeable if you were close to me or talking to me face to face.

I just never had this kind of problem, I'm just paranoid I might be balding or have some kind of disease or something.

even if you have been using it for a month it might stay for a whole month if you stop now. I would not risk it any longer and just get a 2 dollar bottle of Sauve, it works perfectly fine for me without the oozing.

For God's sake just switch shampoo brands.

If you stop it for a while and the problem stops......bingo.
How hard is that?

Mix egg yokes with fish oil. Apply it to your hair under a plastic shower cap and let stand overnight.

Could be this

http://www.medicinenet.com/seborrhea/article.htm

I have suffered from it nearly my entire life. I'd say that my case of it is rather mild and I've learned to live with it. I always have to keep my hair cut short and use a cycle of different dandruff shampoos. I change shampoos every couple of months. It only gets bad when I sweat a lot (my scalp itches like crazy) or when I can't shower twice a day or my hair gets long (very rare). Either way, it's always been confined to my scalp and it's manageable. At it's worst point, during my teenage years, it never appeared to be any worse than a very mild case of dandruff, of course I shower at least twice a day anyway.

Keeping your hair short is a good idea.

Do you also wear lighter colored shirts?

I used to, but as I've gotten older, the signs that I have it are nearly impossible for anyone to notice. Some of my best friends don't know about it and I'm confident they'd tell me if they saw dandruff on my shoulders or in my hair. The only time it's noticeable is if I go more than two weeks without a haircut and then get it cut short. My scalp had red splotches on it similar to razor burn. I've gone nearly 4 weeks now without a haircut, so I'll wait until Friday evening to get it done so that things will dry out and be taken care of visually by Saturday morning/afternoon.

Oh and being in the Army Reserve helps too, because I HAVE to keep my hair short anyway.

Rogue, so there isn't any topical cream/ointment that can cure that?

Or even any oral medication?

Not that any dermatologist has ever recommended to me anyway. I've been given Kennalog <sp?> topical steroids to spray on my scalp (didn't work and a pain in the ass to use) and have used several different prescription shampoos over the years, all of which are now available OTC. I have used mostly Selsun Blue over the years, but I've found just as the link says, that I get better results rotating shampoos with different additives (pyrithione zinc, selenium sulfide, tar, etc.). Other than that, no, nothing that I know to cure it permanently. I also have oily skin and I know that there are treatments today where lasers can be used to kill sebacious (oil) glands in the skin to reduce the secretions, but I've just learned to manage it. Perhaps when I'm making a good 6 figure income or more, I will have the surgery done to at least reduce the problem where possible.
