I think the Laptop DVD ROM may be going

I have a Dell Inspiron E1505 Laptop with a DVD Rom... as of yesterday it started to play the DVD fairly choppy. I thought it may be a ram issue so I cleaned everything up minimized anything else running and it still plays the same.

How should I troubleshoot this? I would hope its only a software issue... but who knows.

laptop specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU
2 GHZ Ram
ATI Mobility Radeon Vid Card

I've been trying a lot of different things... it seems the vid card is fine... how can I make sure that it is the DVD ROM that is shot... they seem quite expensive to replace?

With me also the same problem i have Hp laptop with DVD Rom but my DVD Rom is not working properly it is not reading any discs i tried all the ways but i am not getting any good results. Is there any recovery methods are there or shall i change the DVD Rom?.
But i don't want to spend money for the DVD Rom it is good for me to recover it.

Thanks

Sort of like a dog chasing a car. What does it do when it catches the car?

Test the optical drive, and perhaps clean it. A dirty laser lens can be the problem - especially if anyone smokes in the vicinity.

If it needs replacing, consider using an external. That would be fewer $$$.
