For those that don't know what a "Scorched Earth Policy/Plan" is, remember what the Iraqis did to the oil fields as they were getting their @sses handed to them back during the Gulf War? That's right; they set them all on fire. Destroyed villages, etc. "Scorched Earth Policy" means leaving nothing behind for the enemy to use. The term originated back in Medievel times when the only things of value were crops and cattle. When one side was losing badly and had to abandon their village or stronghold, they would kill the cattle and burn the crops leaving no food behind for the enemy. I.E. "scorched earth." Anyway...

I firmly believe that if "the coalition" invades Iraq (he's going to lose quickly and everyone including Saddam knows it) he will blow up his own city, with everyone in it. And I mean BLOW it up....Torch the whole damn thing.

Saddams' nothing but a bratty kid. If I can't have my toys, you can't either! I think he'd rather see his people dead and his county burned to cinders than surrender it to "the coalition" i.e. the Americans.

I mean, he's gassed his own people and runs a complete dictatorship over there.

What say you?

If he DOES have weapons of mass destruction, and it get's to the point where he thinks he's going to lose control of his country, you know he's going to start using them. When you back an animal into a corner it becomes a lot more dangerous...

i don't think i was being very cryptic...

so he torched kuwait... that wasn't his country, you can't really compare the two. he could have done it for any number of reasons, including slowing coalition forces down, denying them a place to get oil, etc.

so he gassed his own citizens... other countries (including america) have done equally horrible things, but i do not think that you could necessarily say the leaders of those countries would destroy their countries.

Negative Space Ranger. America has never gassed it's own citizens. I'm not denying that America has commited some wartime atrocities; war is not pretty. If you want to make an omlet you have to break a few eggs. Besides, sometimes human nature takes over, unfortunately. But don't try to steer the conversation awry, please.

i never said america gassed it's own citizens, i said it has down equally horrible things (and not in time of war). i am not trying to steer the conversation awry, i am simply giving you an example of why i do not think gassing his own citizens necessarily indicates he will destroy the whole country.

i haven't seen anything to indicate he is a coward... evil maybe, but i haven't noticed that any of acts are particularly cowardly. am i missing something?

anyways, ends justify the means, yadda yadda, you could say the same thing about saddam and gassing his own people. just depends on what perspective you look from. i am not a fan of such unethical practices, however.

as a further aside, i am not saying that saddam will not do all this... just that i don't think the evidence collected so far is enough to come to a conclusion of any sort.

That's actually pretty darn funny. 🙂 Here I am getting all steamed up and you drop that 1-2-3 thing on me...I about PIMP by #3. Look; Saddam is a tyrannical despot. He will do ANYTHING to stay in power. Not only will he go down without much of a fight, but he will "setup" the USA/Allies. I.E. he'll plant bombs in schools, then put snipers up on the second floor and fire at us. As we close in on the building, the snipers will bail out the back door. We'll run in the front door, they'll blow the building and take videos, send it to CNN and say "AMERICANS bombed this school" and all the world will see are American troops in/around the building. Dont' think he wont'. This is a man that puts SCUD missles in the front yards of Mosques.
