I think that I am going to "die"...

I am REALLY pissed off with myself...

By mistake I have deleted my "Downloads" folder (excluding MP3)...

F**k!!

2 years worth of downloads down the drain...

// me runs to the toilet and puke...

Is there any 'undelete' program or utility that would allow you to salvage some of it? I know how you're feeling, one of my old hard drives died with a lot of my great stuff on it. 🙁

I feel for you dude. The best thing that you can do is NOT to look or use your computer for at least a few hours. Wait till you're calmer, then only start digging on what's missing. Don't worry, stuff can be re-downloaded. Good luck!

If you have a copy of Norton Utilities, try installing it and see if it can recover any of the files.

Oops. I thought I was pissed a month or two ago when I used an ID3 tag manager to completely nuke all my ID3 tags when I was only trying to kill the genre within all the tags, but at least I still have all my files.

I feel bad for you. 🙁

i've deleted my c:\downloads a few times accidentally in the past before. =/

i select a few files, and magically windows selects the whole fricken dir...
and i Shift+Delete faster than anything. so whoops. there goes 20 gigs of downloads...

gah, gotta start using the recycling bin instead of shift del. 🙁

Unfortunatly the Unerase from Norton Utilities is the single most useless utilitiy on Earth...

I have it and the only thing that detects is some files that are still on my Recicle Bin (but that have nothing to do with my Download's folder)....

And I don't even want to think off ALL the things that I have lost.....

/me run to the toilet again...

and good old DOS 6.1...

.... why didn't my system just crashed?!?! It crashes all the time.... why didn't it at the time of deleting.... 🙁

PowerQuest was offering Lost & FOund as a free download a while back, you might wanna go to there website and check if its still availiable for download.

🙂

I have several partitions and I still haven't touched the partition where the disaster ocurred so I might try it when I get home....

Even if I can recover at least 50% or 40 % of my files it would be better than none...

Yep, I noticed that too a while ago when I deleted all files instead of that one I intended...

Never delete with shift...

Yup! I think it happened to me twice. Yes, it happend to my download folder too.

I selected a file and was about to shift+delete when Explorer refreshed for some reason and the folder was highlighted....DOH!

old habits are hard to break. been shift deleting since day 1 of win95. =/

6 year old habbit... 🙁

Windows needs the ability to "protect" a folder... A check box in the properties of the folder...

This way you would need to do like 3 confirmations to delete it or something...

And instead of unerase, how about just putting in an "Undo" feature...

Say have all files not actually delete for 24 hours or something...

With the size of hard drives today, why not?

How about this... Have a 10% size partition on the back of your drive, have everything you delete actually copied there and deleted in order of oldest first...

Just ideas on how Windows could better handle deleted files...

<< i'm always surprised when ppl don't backup stuff they took a long time to get😛 youh ave a cd burner? >>

Anyone know the quickest and easiest way to backup a massive 20GB folder to CD-R?

I do have my data on a RAID 5 array, so I don't need to worry about the drives dieing, but this reminded me that I can still lose the info by deleting it...

I have a CD-R and about a zillion CD-R disks, but no way to backup files easily...

If those files are REALLY important you might want to consider Media Tools or EnCase and of course Easy Restore (I think this used to be called easy recovery pro or something like that) Media tools and EnCase are pretty expensive ($400-$1000 something) but you can just do a search on google and...

I feel for ya... SORRY MAN!! :| but honestly... are downloads from 2 years ago still useful?

I generally only download device drivers and program updates... so stuff even 6 months ago is generally useless to me. I keep MP3 in a diff. directory (as it seems you did)... so dn't have to worry about that.

At least you still have your MP3s.
