My sister had the same type of problems and she took some medicine (forgot what) and now she's fine.

My point exactly. You need to deal with stress. Being diagnosed with a stress related illness just sounds like a cop-out for dealing with the curve balls life throws at you.

What is the treatment for a stress related illness anyway? I'm guessing drugs? Yeah, that just reinforces my opinion.

yeah, now were getting into mental health. That's my main point.

You can't just tell somebody "brush it off" if they've laid a path full of stress. The answer is "change your path, or find ways to cope with your path".

Medication can be a big help for serious stress, especially when it affects ones health. But it is only one of many ways of fixing one's head. In fact it just masks the symptoms.

Dude - I'm stressed out beyond the wazoo.... I understand exactly how it works and the basic needs of the mind. IMHO, you fix the mind first - with possibly the assistance of fighting the symptoms via medication. And I REALLY don't believe in medication - but as a tool to assist with fixing temporarily the mind I support it.

If OP is really feeling it physically then he needs to see and talk to his doctor.

I'll go along with that. I would also advise the OP to be wary of just taking drugs as a way of dealing with this. Most forms of stress are temporary...if they aren't then you probably need to make a change to your life as a way of dealing with it.

Jules,

Stress is a killer. Treat it appropriately IMHO. Medication + therapy has a very high sucess. Look - I can't even spell correctly and it doesn't bother me.

Seriously - stress can be a killer. It can and will affect your physical health. Exercise is one of the best things. See a professional to find the best way to cope. I prefer the "water off a duck's back" mentality.

I remember reading that stress was something that should be temporary, like if we'd be fighting some wild animal or something of that sort - it'd come and hopefully go. Now our jobs can have us under this stress for 8hrs a day or more. It's like running an appliance rated for household (intermittent) use in a commercial application. It won't last very long.

OP - how much sleep do you get? I find that I get in a really lousy mood when I get less than about 7hrs of sleep. Incidentally, I do some of my best writing when I'm in a pissy mood like that. I suck at math type problems, but I can sure write like crazy when I really am in my good old, trusty life-hating mode. My best essays in school were borne out of that frame of mind. When I'm in a good mood though, I just don't give a damn about classwork, it just seems to tedious and mind-numbingly boring to waste a good mood on.

But anyway, sleep. It is good. I hate doing it, it just seems like a waste to throw away 1/3 of my time here on being unconscious. Damn primitive brain....but, technology can't do anything about it yet, so, gotta live with it and work around it, just like you do with bad software that won't be patched; find workarounds, or sometimes, live with the bugs.

You're on the right line. If you are constantly feeling a "fight or flight" all day you are in deep trouble. The medication helps even that out but the problem is in the mind. Fix the mind first.

I have been diagnosed with panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and major depression. Stress is a major cause of my disorders and should be taken very seriously. My mental issues have caused me physical problems including nausea, dizziness, and lack of energy. I have suffered from panic attacks as well. I have learned how to live with my issues and wish you the best in coping with yours.

Anyone else actually been diagnosed with stress related illness?

Stress is a part of life. Deal with it.

Well, aren't you just one giant ball of happy fvcking sunshine?

Meh, I call 'em like I see 'em. :p
