I think Sony Won E3

OK. We get it, you don't like the Wii, but you are dead wrong on the bolded part.

Actually I agree with him. I own a Wii and love it. But I think Nintendo will have to come out with a new console well before the other 2 do. in another 4 years, I think the 360 and PS3 will still be around strong with good graphics and games, wile the Wii will be outdated for a good part of their fanbase.

Sure, there will still be some who don't care about graphics at all, but the majority do to some point(otherwise we would still be playing a SNES).

I disagree completely on Sony winning E3. Actually this E3 has proven that neither console is really superior for a game standpoint. I was more impressed by Call of Duty 4 (the actual gameplay segment with the two snipers sneaking through an enemy camp) than any other game displayed including Halo 3 and Killzone 2. I'm looking forward to games from both systems...but I'm not interested in picking up a PS3 anytime soon as I don't feel any games are coming out in the next year that will make the $500 purchase worthwhile...not to mention the crappy online component (when compared to Live). That being said, the PS3 is a nice piece of hardware (BD, Good DVD upscaling, etc)

I wouldn't go so far as to say so many people care about graphics as much as you think.

The DS has been whooping the crap out of the PSP for a long time now, and as we know, graphics on DS are crap compared to the PSP.

And the reason we don't play SNES anymore is because they don't make games for it. The older generation sytems just get left in the dust and get no support. God of War 2 came out for PS2 months after PS3 was released and that game still sold like hot cakes. Hell PS2 STILL sells like hot cakes and games are continuing to come out for it.

Hell I'd take a SNES sequel to Super Mario World (and a TRUE sequel, not yoshi's island) and Super Mario Kart over any of these new Mario or Mario Kart games they are putting out on the Wii.

I kind of have to agree with TallBill. Everyone loves to tout sales and say that the Wii is clearly great because of it... but guess what? Wal-Mart and McDonalds have great sales too... but are they the best? Nope, they sell because they are cheap, just like the Wii.

So far the Wii has done jack sh!t to impress me. I'm not a graphics whore by any means, but if you're going to skimp on the graphics, you had better have some great gameplay to make up for it. I haven't seen it yet. Most of the games range from utterly average to total crap. I've got Twilight Princess... it's a fine game, but the series really hasn't changed much since Ocarina of Time, and sadly, neither have the graphics. Seriously, when I say "skimp on the graphics", what I mean is "look worse than your average late generation GC game". Super Paper Mario was fun for a while, but it's really just platformer trying to masquerade as an RPG and it's a far cry being an example of a great game in either genre. It got boring too quickly.

Now, I'm not saying it's all bad. I hear good things about games like Godfather and Trauma Center. I'm just not interested in Godfather and I was unsure if I'd enjoy Trauma Center. The next Trauma Center features co-op, so that will likely be enough to make me pull the trigger on the purchase.

Anyway, there's really not much else out there. Some OK games here and there, but given the quality of the visual and audio aspects of these games, they hardly seem worth the sticker price. Then Nintendo busts out a 3" steering wheel and a freaking electronic scale at E3. What a disappointment. I'm not going to sell the Wii or anything, I think there will be great games to come along. At this point I'm just not expecting anything more out of the system than what we got with the GC.

You're opinion is just that, an opinion. It's based simply on graphic power which, IMHO, means little when it comes to gameplay, but if that's what you want to hang on, go for it.

The wii is a last gen system that wont have staying power. The 360 and PS3 will be putting out monster games for several years, while the wii started equal to the gamecube. Yey, more smash brothers and mario games, and another metroid, while PS3 and 360 get Halo 3, Bioshock, MGS4, KZ2, Assassin's creed, Rock Band, Army of two, Mass Effect, Call of Duty 4, Halo Wars, a better Resident Evil 5, Fable 2, Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Unreal Tournament 3, Grand Theft Auto IV, Lair, Allan Wake, Virtua Fighter 5, Medal of Honor: Airborne, Devil May Cry 4, Ace Combat 6, not to mention that all of the sports games are better on these two systems.

Youre just plain wrong. For starters, every single one of those games you listed aside from rock band involves involves some sort of violence, killing etc. I love violent games and all, but thats really all there is to show on the other systems, and I'm just getting too old for that to be the actual draw. When I was 10 years old, I was blown away by the fatalities in mortal kombat. 17 years later, I just dont care.

And yes, those are or will be great games, and I'll have a PS3/360/PC to play them on. But theyre not going to squeeze the Wii out in any way. Maybe itll lose some cred amongst the "hardcore" gamers, but nintendo has been sliding away from that since the N64 came out. Theyre still putting out some great games, if you dont take yourself too seriously to actually pull the stick out of your ass, lighten up, and play them.

The best part of your rant though....you complain about nintendo putting out another mario and metroid, and then go on to list 13 sequels, several of which are going on their 4-6th iteration.

I think the big difference, and what gets really old, is that Nintendo sticks their mascots in every single game they make. I have no problems with series, many of my favorite games are ongoing series... but no one pimps out their mascots like Nintendo. Sometimes I wish they would take the effort to create new ones.

P.S. And by "new mascots" I mean something other than 50 new Pokemon.

Yeah...mario is a total whore for sure. 😛 They slowly sneak a few new ones in every generation but none of them really have the same sticking power as mario. Pikmin, for example. And mario and friends are really the only true whores of the bunch...its not like theyre making metroid tennis or zelda kart.

Although its not really a character per se, they did drop a pretty killer new "mascot" with the Wii called the Mii.

Haha... I do like the Miis. Every now and then I'll go check out the Mii Parade and see if there are any I want to grab for my own collection.

Nah, I think it's because they're cartoons (the Mario characters, that is). I think a lot of people dismiss Mario games as being for kids without giving them a chance. Meh. I'm an adult, and if you can't have fun playing Mario Power Tennis then you suck at life.

I'm not saying I can't have fun with Mario... I could if all the games they put him were actually good. But variety is nice. Nintendo always seems to get a free pass from their fanbase when they take shortcuts and minimize effort.

I dont think they get a free pass from anyone but the most casual of gamers. Mario Kart😀D was a bit of a letdown, mario golf and baseball suck, and mario party has been the same game with the same problems for 10 years. But mario tennis and strikers are the sh*t, and mario kart usually turns out damn well. Where exactly have they been getting free passes anyway?

Well, they could make a great game with familiar characters, or they could make a great game with new characters. Which would you choose? There are plenty of great games that never achieved success because they were not part of an established franchise. Nintendo is doing the same thing that Square Enix has done with Final Fantasy.

See, there's a whole host of Wii games coming out soon that are interesting, but if we ignore them it'll look like the Wii has no games. Battalion Wars 2, a new Fire Emblem, Guitar Hero 3, Manhunt 2, No More Heroes (made by the developers of Killer 7, a game you should know), RE: Umbrella Chronicles, and lots of other games that you wouldn't know by name. What makes a game more fun on 360/PS3 to you than Wii anyways? Oh right, your opinion. Other people will enjoy Wii's lineup and the Wii will keep selling as it has always had.

This is an example of the free pass I'm taking about. I agree that it makes smart business sense, and you can see it pays off for them big time, but they just don't seem to get the same flak other companies do for sequels and recycling characters. Whenever you see someone break out a term like "sequelitis" it seems like it's rarely used in reference to a Nintendo franchise. And, no, what Square Enix does really isn't the same thing... though it is getting to be that way. They periodically create a whole new set of characters and in a a whole new world. The only thing that remains the same is the FF name and a character named Cid. Nintendo keeps the same games, the same characters, and often the same worlds.

They also get free passes in other areas. You'll see fanboys rip MS for the so called microtransactions on Live, while at the same time they happily pay for overpriced VC games running on emulators that cost Nintendo virtually nothing. And I'm sure a large chunk of them will go out and buy that extra wheels just use in the new Wii MK game. Or in the GC era when they released tiny overpriced memory cards and then released slightly bigger ones a little bit later and another little bit bigger one shortly after that. That way they could milk their fanbase by not quite meeting their needs for save game storage. Nintendo are masters at ripping off their fanbase without ever appearing to be doing so... and thus they are rarely called on it.

I'm not saying other companies don't do similar things, but only Nintendo seems to avoid getting ripped for it.

Actually, I never said they didn't have good games coming. In fact, I said I was going to keep my Wii for that very reason. What I said was their current sales really don't reflect the quality of the games that are out now. And, to be honest, I'm not overly interested in the games you listed. Maybe Fire Emblem and No More Heroes. I'll need to see review first. As I said before, given the quality of the games so far I'm going to need to see some reviews first.

Nintendo gets called for its recurring characters and its VC all the time, just like Microsoft. Where have you been?

I think the biggest difference between Mario and other sequels is Nintendo will tweak things enough to make it (slightly)different each go around. A lot of other franchises simply repeat the same formula with a new story. Also almost anyone who's plays video games grew up with Mario so there's a familiarity there that people can't have with say Master Chief. Mario and friends are cartoony enough where they can fit in almost anywhere. So people won't complain when Mario decides to play soccer, tennis or go to the circus. Master Chief would be a bit out of place on a tennis court.

I was referring mostly to what Square Enix did with Final Fantasy VII and what they're planning for Final Fantasy XIII. But I think the whole series is analagous to what Nintendo does to a lesser extent. They DO create new characters, but they maintain consistent themes, plot elements, and of course the name to bank on the power of the franchise instead of creating something entirely new. There's a lot more in common between Final Fantasy games than Cid. But I don't criticize them for it. I love playing the Final Fantasy III remake. I think it'd be great if they ported the rest of them to handhelds.

I don't know who these people are, but I'm with Microsoft on this one. I'm really disappointed with VC and Nintendo's online stuff in general so far. On the other hand I love XBLA.

Then you can't read very well caues I don't dislike the PS3 at all. It's a great piece of hardware, but at the current time, it is terrible for gaming.

The PS3 just does not have any good games out for it right now that are worth the $500 entry point IMO

I do however dislike Sony's practices in general as they lie to the general public and make a bunch of promises they can't keep. And yes, I have made that very apparent in my beliefs on this forum. 🙂

But I do not go out of my way as Tallbill does to reply to every PS3 comment saying how awful it is.
