I think someone split my cable

Ever since I've lived in my aptartment, I had basic cable...

It just worked ... "Don't ask, Don't tell" was my theory

Anyways, a couple months ago, the building was sold and the new owners
told everyone they were going to make condos so most people moved out,
since all leases were turned over to month to month with a slight increase in rent.

Turns out, they aren't going to renovate for at least a year so they rented the rest
of the building in about a week, to a bunch of loud dumbasses btw. I found out through some covert tactics the new people are paying alot more rent than us, so thats cool.

Whats not cool is after all these people moved in, my cable is super fuzzy now
like trying to get over the air on a ghetto coat hanger antenna. I did reconnaissance around
the perimeter and noticed an apartment with like 3 cables all split up running into their window.

I think these may be the culprits, but not sure. It could be from someone getting an official
installation form the cable company. Is running busted cable a tactic of the cable company to get people to subscribe? I don't really care about having cable, as the only show I watch regularly is about
to end in two episodes, but still, if someone is jacking my jacked cable, I may have to retalliate.

The cable is not specifically yours, it feeds to everyone else in the building. Unless they directly split it from your living room.

Ya really.. split their cable again and make a U-turn back to your apartment! Then, put both cables back into one cable into your TV.

Cox has a program here in Vegas where if you rat out a cable thief you get a free month of service. Cash in.

Lol, weird situation :p Before you do anything make sure you don't have a loose/bad cable though, that can cause fuzz or snow. Otherwise fark it.. what are you missing, reality TV? who wants to be a millionaire? American Idol? God... Leave TV for the AOLites it's made for & use your computer for entertainment, the way it's meant to be :D

I'm with Gurck on this one...TV sucks.

Granted, it might interfere with your cable modem though...hmm....

If the cable gets to your apartment first, you may be able to cut the cable after it gets to your TV, but before it goes on up to their apartment.

So, I'm right to assume that "someone is jacking my jacked cable" means you're stealing cable too? If so, that rules out calling the cable company.

I don't know how your place is laid out, so you might have a friend help you out with figuring which cable line is yours by unplugging them one at a time and seeing which takes out your TV. Splitting a cable two ways won't degrade you much at all. If you're further down the line, it'll turn more and more into crap. So, what you want to do is put yourself in the beginning. Give yourself half the signal and put all the other guys on the other half.

...or you COULD stop "jacking" the cable and not have to deal with any of this.

You could just ask your new neighbors and pretend that you *are* a legitimate subscriber and say youre thinking about calling the cable company.... ask them if theyre having problems too... mess with them...

Whatever you do, when its not working and you arent playing with it, disconnect it from this point out. If anyone in the place does call the cable co and your jacks are closing the circut... o_O

splitting cable can definitely make the signal weaker.

call the cable company to check it out. tell them what you suspect.
