I think religion gets a little too much leeway from the government.

Honestly, we should just set salary limits for all non profits. We also need to be more forceful in taking away non profit status when needed.

Laslty, since churches are non profit due to separation of church and state, and not necessarily due to other ways orgs achieve non profit status, I don't think people should be able to deduct contributions to a church.

X donates $2,000,000 to a church. Church builds X his [^^^^^^^^^] = tax dodge.

Yeah. That's why I was saying donations to a church should not be tax deductible. That in addition to the other needed limits to tax exempt orgs should fix things .

Taxing churches is something new should do, but it will go no where politically. Rs would win in a landslide after any such law and they would just flip it back.

We really do need to prioritize education in this country. A cognizant citizenry could clear the way forward considerably.

Because of their wealth and influence, not the letter of the law.

Also Scientology is perfect for anyone looking for tax exemptions and special treatment. If I were rich I'd join up immediately.
I mean as the law stands now religious organizations don’t have to follow any law they don’t wish to so yeah, it’s a little too lax, haha.

Well we might have to fight fire with fire so to speak.

Don't know the details, but that Sentence is pretty steep. Especially in comparison to some other Sentences given out for other crimes recently.
