I think Quake 4 rocked.

I just installed it today, and it's infinitely better than Doom 3. Id has churned out nothing but good engines and crappy games since Romero left.

and Romero has churned out nothing but crappy games on good engines since he left ;)

Ah Diakatana how glad am I that I played your demo first?

I played to the train ride part... I felt no need to go on. This kind of gameplay and story was good in inthe early 90s, but it's stale now.

They have just reused the same crap that's in lots of other games.
Stupid pointless random parts on the spaceship that add nothing and just take up time (Unreal 2), plus why the HELL is the briefing room beyond the med bay with no signs to indicate this?
Stupid sit on mounted gun and shoot stuff (Pariah), awful hovertank section (the part I'm up to now, just got to the "boss" type thing and I'm thinking of giving up - Half Life 2, Far Cry (done better on both though)).

WHAT'S THE POINT?
This crap isn't fun the 20th time you've done it.

It also reminded me of Star Wars: Republic Commando (well, the start of it which was all I played).

And if you're going to limit players to certain areas, at least make it reasonable.
There was a cave, and they put really low (less than knee height) boxes in the way you couldn't jump over. They could have just collapsed the cave.
And why can't things just HAPPEN, why do I need to wait for 5 minutes for someone to do something (like walk forward only to get killed - what a suprise that one was, or waiting for a minute for someone to weld 3 different door parts before it opens, one would suffice).

I finished Quake 4 a few weeks ago and I liked it as well. It was similar to Doom 3, but the technique was different (it was faster paced and didn't rely on just trying to scare you). It was much more fun than D3, but it did remind me of the same game.

I'm trying to finish D3 now and I might play the expansion because I heard that it was much better than the first part, but it's a trying experience. I just got my rocket launcher and I figure I still have a few hours to go before the end.

Saying Q4 is better than D3 is like saying urine is better than vomit.

Quake 4 is a very good game, pure enjoyment playing it. It's not like groundbraking or highly innovative but it's just simply very well executed and produced. It would be especially attractive to people that were put off by Doom 3 being too scary and dark, which is not everyone's cup of tea. It's also less repetetive and has more varied environments. I still think that if you can bare doom 3 shortcomings, it is a highly immersive experience - even the story is quite well presented. Quake 4 approaches but doen't match Doom 3's intensity and atmosphere, but overall Quake 4 is still a better game because of it's more varied environments and gameplay.

Anyone looking for something new.....this is a fps for gosh sake. It's all been done a zillion times over. Pick up gun....pick up better gun....pick up health....pick up armor. Kill baddies.....kill more......get yer a$$ fragged.....get yer a$$ fragged more.

This supposed to be rocket science? FPS's? LOL!

I thought it was enjoyable though I've been on the ride before.

I just beat it last night. I thought it was much better than Doom3 (which isnt saying much), but I was immersed in the storyline. It wasnt anything super special or "OMG NEW" but it was an all around good FPS. Nothing ground-breaking. But I had fun, and that's what matters. I got my moneys worth.

The chances of two mules in a thousand having to poop at the same time are fairly high. I'm not sure the ass of a thousand mules would really be a working scenario. You would need more than one I think.

Where's the "It Sucked" option?

Quake 4 gets tons better starting at the middle of the game.

The beginning is boring, but from the middle to the end it's good.

The middle is when I started to realize the story wasn't going anywhere.

where do you want the story to go ? it's a simple and classic story - you have to blow things up, shut down defences and kill the bad guys along the way. The story has a nice twist with you becoming a strogg. The presentation is immaculate with professional actors doing the voices and good in game sequences.

I agree the game becomes even better after the middle with new types of enemies and weapons as well as weapon upgrades. The squad AI is terrific (better than HL2), and enemy AI is also pretty good (=HL2). But overall the gameplay is very straightforward, not much tactical element, which is what I expect quake to be. This is old school with a vengence running on a very impressive graphics engine.

I think a lot of people were dissapointed with the multiplayer, which is THE SAME as quake 3 with NOTHING new, which leaves it a little behind of other MP games, even some not so new ones. But the MP is still better than D3 and HL2, and with the expected large number of upcoming mods, it might become a good MP game and catch up to new MP shooters like the upcoming UT2007 (although that game will most likely be the best MP shooter ever).

I played the demo on the 360. It was aight but too Doom3-like to me. I may get it when it's in the bargain bin.

Meh. I haven't finished the game yet so I'll reserve my opinion on it until I do. After playing FEAR, Q4 just wasn't exciting me.
