I think people are just plain stupid when it comes to technology

A friend of mine called and said he was having problems with his computer. I said what's wrong with it and he states it didnt want to boot up. So, I ran through a few things with him and I'm like "Yea, it's fvcked up, but I want to take a look at it myself so I can get a better understanding of what is going on."

Anyways, a week goes by and he doesnt call me. He finally calls me and says he bought a brand new computer from Dell. It cost him roughly $800 or so but he says he's loving it. I asked where his old PC was and he said it's in the basement. I asked him for it and he drops it off.

I bring it into work and figured out what it was. For some reason, the mobo was trying to detect a Primary Slave drive, when there wasn't even one!!! That basically froze the computer and the PC wouldnt boot or anything. It would just sit on the Dell logo screen durnig the initial bootup. Anyways, I disabled it and it runs like a charm.

Time to install a new OS. I think I'll try Debian.

on the IDE cable, you can have 2 drives. one master and one slave. There was a HD set to master but there wasn't anything else hooked up to the cable.

The 2 cdroms were on the secondary ide cable and they are fine.

it was on the end. In the BIOS, the Primary Slave read "Unknown Device."
I'm like WTF, so I disabled it. It booted up and I fdisked the thing.

The school I work at is a private school where a majority of the students come from wealthy family. I get a lot of parents and faculty members who wanted me to help fix their computers. I said no cuz my colleague who have done it before stated a couple of them gave him cookies for his services! I'm thinking to myself if they wont pay me $100 just to do something major then it's not worth it. They'll take it to compusa where they'll be raped!

A friend of mine gave me her old PC a while back, it hadn't been working for several months. In the meantime she bought an Apple notebook. I got a free PC with monitor, keyboard, mouse, and even a printer. The PC works fine, the video card was loose. Popped it back in and fired it right up
