For those of you lucky enough not to be from cold-ass places, winter-time temperatures usually feel much colder than the stated temperature, since a high wind will chill your body much faster than if there was no wind at all.

Since winter started a few weeks ago, I got sick of looking at the built-in Android weather widget, which shows the air temperature and not the wind chill index. Hence, I wrote my Wind Chill Widget, which shows me what it really feels like out there.

Anyway, check it out if you're an Android user in a cold place. I check it all the time and it's working out wonderfully - Android's weather widget shows -10C right now, while mine shows the much more useful -20C

What API are you using for your weather information?

Edit: Installed it on my phone, a couple of suggestions:

1.) Pull the location information from the location manager - Some people do travel :)
2.) Allow user to set BG color or transparency level in settings
3.) Manual refresh on widget click

How about factoring in the user's speed and direction for motorcycle users? ;)

I thought about automatically setting the location, but since I wasn't sure if anybody would be downloading/using this, I thought I'd do the simpler/quicker method.

Considering this thing's actually getting used I do want to add this soon.

I like it. Another vote for auto location and a clear background. Other than that I really like it.

if you are going to add auto-location, make it an option ... leave the final decision up to the user

when Android tells me that the wind chill is -20, I upload the widget for real estate pricing in San Diego.

Did you breeze through the coding on this one?

Yeah, it's a small project - took me 3 sessions of about 3-4 hours each, spread out over 2 weeks or so. Adding auto-location would probably be another session.

Current temp: 43
Wind Chill: 44

Where are you located, if you don't mind me asking? The wind chill index comes straight from Yahoo weather, so I can check it easily.
