I think my GPU is overheating

So I have an 8800GTS. It was at stock speeds. I got a bluescreen during WoW about GPU memory fault.

Upon reboot, I discovered that my GPU was sitting at 68C. God knows what it was at before the reboot.

This is with 100% fan speed.

I clocked it down to 550 core 900memory just to make sure, and got another freeze after a couple hours. Sure enough, upon reboot, it was nearly 70C.

What can I do to fix this, or should I just RMA?

Maybe try blowing it out. Try using some canned air (stick the tube extension that comes with it into the fan hole). I'm kind of surprised about the crashing though, because 70C doesn't seem that high for GPU.

Problem is he says it's still at 70C after the time it takes to reboot. There is a program called hardware monitor that will record high, low, and current temps of GPU and CPU. Load it and let it run behind your gamd then back out of your game after a while and see what your temps are. Are you sure your GPU cooling fan is actually turning?

this happened to me about a month ago with my 8800gts 320mb. i took the card out and it was filled with dust, the metal grill at the back was clogged with dust, and i cleaned it out. everything is back to normal now.

that's # 1 most likely, but my gts 620 was getting hotter and hotter and i pulled off the hsf and the tc was all crumbly on the gpu... what sucks on these cards is that the stock hsf doesn't come very close to the mem chips and the fat tc pads they use seem to be junk... i just put in a glob of tc and bolted it back together until i can find some reasonable, thick thermal pad... gpu is a lot cooler, can't tell about the memory, but it's not having anyproblems @ 630/1000...

Yeah, I've been running HWmonitor, didn't boot out and check until just now.

It didn't go above 63 with the case door off, so I think it's just a combination of VERY bad ambients and some bad airflow.

Fan is definitely turning, I can hear how loud it is over the two big fans in the room.

First thought was dust. I cleaned it out good.

I'll keep an eye on it and fix the airflow problems.

Yeah, definitely was bad airflow and ambients. I switched the side-intake fans (why this case had side-intake fans by default, I have no idea) to side-exhaust fans, opened a couple windows and set fans up to exhaust the hot air out of the apartment, and now it didn't even hit 60 while gaming.

Just goes to show you how important good case airflow and good ambient temps are! >_>

good to see you got your card stable again, that is quite a difference, actually for me it was the reverse, my 80mm fan i rigged up on my side panel was better as an intake fan than an exhaust (it blows air right onto my card and my system runs cooler with the side panel closed than with it open).
