That might be one reason, I had a K7S5A before with my 1.33 t-bird and temps were around 50-55c. I switched to an MSI kt3 ultra2 and the xp1800 and my temps are steady around 40c. And before I used the stock AMD fan.
Yes, and I've taken that into consideration. However, if my readings were 150C I wouldn't really care as long as my system was stable. I'd assume it was just a bad reading. But in my case, I'm showing 52C idle, my heatsink is hotter than hell and when I run a game it hard locks pretty quick. When I'm just surfing the net or doing normal things within Windows it is super solid.

On my K7S5A, I get CPU temperature readings of up to 59C with a 1GHz Duron overclocked to 1.33GHz, which is approaching the 1.4GHz that your 1600+ runs at. Mine is one of the original-revision K7S5A's. Anyway, it runs quite happily at that temperature.

I wonder if your motherboard's chipset is overheating, since I have heard rumors to that effect with K7S5A's. I see in your other thread that opening the case and aiming a fan into it fixed the lockup problem, so keep this in mind as a possibility. While you're waiting for your Alpha to arrive, maybe you can test this theory by putting a little fan on your motherboard's heatsink, if you have one lying around.

according to this site, the max temp on the XP1800+ is 90C

I do not see anywhere on that site where it gives the max temp for any CPU. It only gives the case temp.

I have one that runs about 60 with 100% CPU usage but with the case side off it runs at 56 and I think that is plenty cool for a AMD processor.
Dont Panic.

I am running the Thermalright SK-6 heatsink with a cheap Antec 80mm case fan and I run at 44c max. I have artic silver on it and very good case cooling.(3x 80mm in / 2x 80mm out / PCI fan out ) I have my Xp1600+ OC to 1900+ at 150fsb. If I go to 152fsb I get lock ups.
