hey all-

im pretty new here, so please bare with me and my computer iliteracy. I just got a new stick of cruical ram, identical to the old ram that i got from crucial. I turned off my computer(unplugged it and opened up the box), installed the new piece of ram, and tried to start the computer up. It will not start at all, no fan moving, absolutely nothing. So i removed the new piece of ram and still got absolutely nothing when i tried to boot up the computer. then i took out one piece of old ram, and still got nothing. Lastly, i did make sure my power supply was plugged in and on! So i am wondering what might be the cause of this problem? Did i fry my memory or motherboard? Did my Power supply dump out?

I know that maybe this isnt a common problem, and maybe i shouldnt be writing you guys about it, but could you at least point my in the right direction. perhaps some other websites i should check out for help or processes i should do to get my computer functioning again, it would be greatly appericated.

some specs about my computer.
motherboard = Ms-6380E V1.0 KT7266 Pro2-A
Processor = Athlon XP 1800+ (i think), i know it runs at 1533 mhz
RAM = Crucial 256 MB (3 sticks, 2 currently installed) the serial number is CT3264Z265.8T
Operating system = windows XP

thank you all for you help, if you have any solution, please get back to me about them soon.

From what you've described it doesn't sound like your new RAM is at fault. Make sure your RAM is firmly seated inside the slot and be absolutely sure you check for loose devices and connectors, especially the power connectors, make sure they're all plugged in firmly. Most likely it's something to do with this.

thanks for the reply!
to be honest, i did try and make sure it was firm inside of the box, but i will go back tonight and double check to make sure all of the connections are good. if that still yields nothing ill mention that in a later post.

thanks again though
