That's a classic burner...I used to own one. Did you know there was a firmware hack for it that could upgrade it to a MP7060a (6x4x24)? Turns out the drives were identical hardware, just different firmware.

Time for a new one 🙂 12x and higher are dirt cheap now.

had the same issue last week, my HP 8x4x32 went out on me, so I got in on the IO magic 24x10x40 deal from office max (via the hotdeals forum) 🙂 1 day shipping! nice!
 
One of the 4x scsi burners in our robotic duplicator just died. I found a replacement for $22! These things were so expensive when they were new.
