I tried getting my Opty 165 naked and really stuffed up. I finally succeeded but somehow broke a pin right in the middle of the processor. Now its a no boot situation with my DFI ultra d refusing to acknowledge the 165 is even there. The broken pin is missing does anyone know what else I could use or if I could use another pin that is not needed? I learnt a valuable lesson and if anyone is thinking of decapitating their processor be ultra careful because things do go wrong. ):

Hm.

I know some people fix them for a relatively low cost (5 pins for 30 bucks or something).

Might look into that.

If not, you've got a nice keychain I'd be willing to buy :p

Stick the broken pin in the sockethole where it would normally go, then plop the processor in. That would be my best suggestion.

maybe buy a cheap used old processor, and then try to take the pin off that and soder it back on? I think the terminals are gold, and it wouldnt be too hard to soder it back on. For now, i wouldnt go pin breaking happy. but dude i feel for you, almost as bad as when my friend got impatient on me, decided to build his own computer and then calls me bitching saying his computer is smoking :X
