Acer Travelmate 800LCi

I like it. A long battery life, the latest video card, a big hard drive, a CDRW/DVD, lots of Ram, ect.

Only thing is, is the Centrino just as powerfull as a P4. The latest Computer Shopper seems to think so, but I haven't seen enough benchmarks to be convinced.

Excellent choice sir, I think.

The PM 1.3ghz, should be the same as a P4 1.8ghz.

It's my impression that the Acer TM 800, is one of the centrinos that give the best bang for the buck. And the keyboard is so cool.

Beware these things I found out while researching it. The tv-out is blurry when using it in dual display, so if you are using that alot, it might be a problem.
Someone on the newsgroups complained about the fan spinning alot, even though it was putting out cold air, but this is probably just a person that has gotten a lemon.

BTW they got a review at cNet.com, in which they stated that the fan was very quiet.

I wonder if they'll update it with the new Mobile Radeon 9600? Any word on when that chip is going to start to appear?

^bump! I'm interested in this notebook for college--anyone know when the Radeon 9600 or GeForceFX 5600 M is supposed to come out on the Travelmate 800 series?

Were in the same boat then. :D

I have a fealing that they won't just swap out the Radeon 9000m for the 9600. Most likely, we'll see a 806LcX with teh parts we want.

I'm waiting a bit for everything to get sorted out before I buy a laptop. Hopefully Acer, Toshiba, Dell, and Sager will have a banias (maybe even dothan!) orgy and crank out a kick-ass not-too-expensive ($2kish at the max) laptop before college starts. My wants: 15 or 16" screen, centrino, 5-ish hrs battery life, 7200 rpm hitachi hd, and a fxgo5600 or 9600m. that would be ideal.
