SunnyD,

Some suggestions:

1) Keep pressing for positions. It doesn't have to mean a lower-paying position, but you might check some other areas of I.T. - change management, operations, etc. Getting in the door with one of the positions will then allow you to demonstrate your coding ability.

2) Consider looking for volunteer gigs. Keep gaining experience by doing some free I.T. work for a local church or school.

3) Bond with a couple of recruiters. While companies are a bit reluctant to hire right now, it appears that contract positions are are the norm for the moment. Have the recruiters dig for positions for you.

Best of luck to you. :)

How old are you Sunny? Going back to college can be difficult especially when you have to pay the bills. I did it though!! I left my job as a postal employee and took a job making $9 an hour as a midnight security officer. I then went to college full time and to pay for school I took out college loans. In fact, I took out $5,400.00 this semester to cover my expenses (rent, car payment, utilities, etc..) I'm in the middle of student teaching at this moment and I'm graduating this December! I really do love working with young children. It's a great feeling.

My point is if I can do it then I know that you can also. I don't have any children and my parents helped me out financially when I needed their help so I'm blessed.

Good luck. :)

#1 - I didn't even understand supafly's comment, so maybe that's half my problem.

Secondly, Skoorb, I've been slowly realizing it over the last year plus. I just don't know what I can do about it. I've been searching "peripheral fields" for something that might consider me, but even that has turned up nothing.

Farvacola, okay, I'm over it. Now please tell me how I can pay the bills, put a roof over my family's head, provide for my wife and children (clothes, etc), and make sure they have a future on minimum wage without your taxes paying for most of it?

Yossarian - too few to remember. Something like 6 in-person and probably another 4 phone interviews.

Slappy00 - I've resume'd and spoken with nearly every agency/head hunter around here. I have one that is impressed with me and has been looking for a few weeks, but I haven't had anything positive. Mostly I get "if we find something that you're qualified for, we'll let you know," and then god forbid I ever try to get ahold of anyone there again.

Yes, I have a BSCS minor in math, with an AS in Computer Information Systems. The only thing it has generated interest in is the "insurance sales" field, which I've tried similar and don't perform well doing "pressured sales".

tec699, I've applied with the government at all levels. It's even harder than private sector. Most of their jobs are filled internally. I've considered teaching as well, but the schools/colleges that I've applied to haven't considered me or want Master's+. Going back to school isn't in the cards financially either, as I cannot afford not to be working full time.
to be entirely honest,my taxes are there so people on hard times like you can get back on your feet.

Have you looked into any financial assistence? You could at least be heading in the right direction with your schooling.

Thanks for the rebuttal Farvacola. I appreciate the "tax" comment, but I've used enough of everybody's taxes already. It's not pride talking either, my family is supposed to be self-sufficient, and I'd prefer to contribute to someone more needy than we are.

DainBramaged - I currently have about $27,000 in student loans from my original educations deferred and have been so for the last 18 months. I think I've already used up eligibility for PELL and other grants as well. Dunno if I can afford it...

Florida has this program for people wanting to teach. All you have to have is a bachlor.
They put you through a 2 yr program or something like that.
I know several people that have done this.
Since you're in Florida, search the net and ask around.
