Oops, I didn?t know that. I already bought the 7600GS. You see; this is why I posted this here, but what the heck, too late now.

My budget has almost been spent.

I already have the ram and as I mentioned before, I?m not trying to upgrade to the latest, I?m trying to save money and buy the toys that are phasing out, but are adequate and have all the wrinkles and pimples removed.

But God, this all is valuable information for me. Though I?ve been working on computer technology all of my life, the new technology is a little unfamiliar to me. I will stumble a bit and make mistakes.

Thanks everyone.

Too bad you already got the 7600 GS card.

In terms of gaming, the video card is WAY more important that the CPU. For example, in gaming, a system with an Athlon X2 3800+ with a 7900 GT would murder a system equiped with an X2 4800+ and a 7600 GT.

Bamacre;

Pay attention.

As I?ve said before, I haven?t bought the X2 4800+ yet.

The AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego 2000MHz 939 Single Core Processor is a highly respected ? well-developed processor and has the best bang for the buck for gaming.

A dual-core CPU is not all that good for gaming, unless you have the money for it. What you end up with, is basically two CPUs, so when you load your OS, it is being run on the first core. The first program you load loads on the second core. It balances the load so that each core only has to do half as much work. However, when you are running games, the game only runs on one of the cores, so the game does not see any improvement from the second core.

I like to wait and purchase well developed, processors, general processors, and circuit boards who have had all of the wrinkles and pimples removed and are about to disappear off the shelves because of the blazing fast turn around for bigger, faster, and better toys that take a year, or more to iron out the catastrophic failures. Try to think as though your life depended on your system and you hadn?t the time, or money to squander on RMAs, or replacements.

For crying out loud, who?s talking about the 7900 GT card?

The ASUS EN7600GS Geforce 7600GS 512MB PCI Express Video Card is a highly respected ? well-developed video card. The ASUS EN7600GT/2DHT/256M Geforce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card is not. There are too many problems with it and it only comes with 2 DVI and S Video output, no standard VGA cable. I don?t care to ?cluster? rig an important element of a system to make it work when it should have had what is needed from the beginning.

You?ve probably been gaming and swapping circuit boards on home-built personal computers longer than I, you should know this.

OMR: good luck with your build. Looks a decent/balanced selection of components. And thanks for switching to the correct spelling of dual core; I was afraid all that use of "duel" would give us old-timers a bad name ;)

Betasub,

Thank you for your reply; I know what yah mean. As a writer, I should be more careful, but you know writers are careless and can?t spell worth a darn without their editors and the editors sometimes are no better than I.

We are 6 months away from a ground-breaking game that will make use of multiple cpu's. More will follow.

Just trying to help. :D

And, in six months time whoever manufactures the next generation dual -core possessor will market it and sell it to you for a thousand, or so bucks to do the free research for them and report the catastrophic failures and spend the time and money in doing so, just so you can play the new game. The same MAY be true with the next generation of games; they?ll market it and let you spend your time and money to do the free research for them.

Wouldn?t it be better to wait for the wrinkles and pimples to be ironed out and purchase when the price is more favorable?

What?s the hurry?
