i did ask them to take the shoes off once i realized they had not...said party involved was already at the house before i got there...i just dont get how you can stare at the mud in the carpet and not think that maybe you should take your shoes off, and instead just keep walking around...hello...look at other peoples feet...no shoes there!

edit: personally when i go to someone else place, i either ask if i can leave them on, or just take them off depending on the specific conditions.

I always take off my shoes when I go to my non-asian friends' houses also, and they look at me weird.

I have a dog. There is nothing on other peoples shoes that my dog hasn't already stepped in and tracked thru the house. It's just dirt... it cleans up.

i have two dogs...goldens...their feet get cleaned each time they come in...that's what a mud room is for.
