I think I'm starting to love Indian food

I had a lunch at an Indian restaurant, the food taste great and I love the spice!



**ok you kind of smell like spice after you eat ;)

my girlfriend likes indian food.. but worse yet.. our mutual friend jenny likes it so much that she wants to be adopted by my family.. needless to say her indian bf is a lousy cook and she didnt know how good indian food is until she had my mom's cooking..now she is hooked.. and my mom iddnt even make anythign special.

Jen didnt even know she was eating vegetarian.. vanessa had the non vegie stuff when she came by later..
but they now both want to eat some mutual dishes.. needless to say they are coming over sometime next week for some grub (as well as to learn how to put on some indian dresses). I love vanessa... she is like doing this without even me asking..she wants to learn.. god now i have to learn about how to cook traditional mexican foods..

ahh the joys of an inter-racial relationship.. i love it.. its so challenging.

Still can't handle the curry.

Love the curry's, naans and biryani.

EDIT: On a side note- GARLIC NAAN - God i am so hungry now.

Can't stand Indian food, and I have tried it both in the U.K and here in the states.

About the only think I like is the non (naan?) bread.

Garlic Naan is called 'Kulcha.'

And "indian food" is a misnomer.

Indian food, depending on region is very diverse.

Americans tend to like Punjabi/Mughali foods because we eat a lot of meat, and use the Tandoor, common in other areas where persians settled like Afghanistan and Iran.

Gujurati food usually doesn't taste very well, and some of them even put a lot of sugar in their food.

South Indian food is great, but never let a south indian make Punjabi food. That would be akin to someone from Africa making Italian food... doesn't fly.

I seriously doubt you have had the right chef then. Unfortunately, most people who own "indian restaurants" never grew up in famlies that ate the food that they cooked. From personal experience, far too many Bangladeshis, Gujuratis, and South Indians try to cook Punjabi food, and are utter FAILURES at that.

Punjabi Pakistanis and Punjabi Indians cook the best.

The place I ate today has A LOT of diffrent ways to cook chickens with different colors of spice, which category of Indian food is that?

if its meat, it was in Punjabi style (doesn't mean the chef was from the region, these days in fact, probably not).

Gujuratis and South Indians are, for the most part strictly vegetarians.

You're JUST starting to love Indian food? Man...you've soooo been missing out. :p

roomie introduced me to Indian food some time last year...have loved it ever since. Yum!

It's bad to categorize it as indian foods with meat = North India.

In Goa they cook with meat too, including pork, and LOTS of seafood which north indians dont cook very often. Goan food is a taste of its own, due to the portuguese influences.

The most popular Goan food is probably the Vindaloo, there is the sorpotel (pok), but that is mainly cooked during festivals.

South Indian food is mainly vegetarian if not completely vegetarian.

Gujus don't put sugar in their food! Atleast not my mom, or relatives! I find punjabi food very oily (but that is true for all indian dishes though). South Indians do have non-veg dishes, you have to try "kothu roti", its awesome! You can get it wiht chicken, beef, lamb, or veggy. The chicken one kicks ass!

I personally don't like Indian food at restaurants, atleast not in the ones in Canada. I eat indian food everyday at home, so why eat it at a restaurant?

Not really cause Tamil food usually includes meat. I love Goa! Stayed there this summer at Taj Fort Aguada resort..unfotanetly the weather wasn't the best so we couldn't enjoy it. I wanna try their cashew-alchohol drink, fenni. Apparently its 80% alchoholic or something.

Bluga: which restaurant did you eat at? Is it near campus?

Goa is south India. To be honest, I haven't tried it, but most of the Indian food that has been exported throughout the world has been in

a)Punjabi style
b)South Indian style (to a lesser extent).

to simplify:

If they serve seekh kababs, chicken, goat, lamb, naan, etc. it is Punjabi style (probably south INdian or gujurati chef tho :disgust: )
If they don't, it is probably south Indian or Gujurati style food.

Even 'north Indian" is a misnomer, because some people consider Gujurat north India, even though it is quite far from Punjab/Kashmir, and the food is VERY different. i don't think there is any one name for it, so i just call it Punjabi/Mughalai because it is tradtional to those areas/people.

hate to break it to you guys that say south indian food does contain meat: yeah you are technically correct, but how many specifically Goan or Tamilian places are there? when people say Indian food these days, they mean Punjabi or South for 99% of the time.

Most Gujuratis put Ghur, do they not? Isn't that some sort of modified sugar? Growing up most of my Indian friends were Gujurati and i've eaten gujurati food many times.
