i think i'm gonna get a tablet on black friday, moving away from PC's it seems...

seems like that's the way to go, i pretty much cloud everything nowdays, no reason to really have much local storage, and besides i have a fileserver/htpc at home with plenty of "hard" storage, so i can just save everything i need there (media and docs etc)

everywhere i go has super fast wifi nowdays, and i got a decent android smartphone (and thinking up upgrading that too soon)...

i like the idea of an nice snappy android tablet, and i love the android os.. pleasant change from microsoft flavors.. yep. i talked myself into it, that's what i'll do... still running XP media center on the htpc, and 7 on the lappy... which is barely getting any action lately 🙁

basically all i use my laptop for anymore is to convert media (cuz its faster than anythng else i own atm at it)

really that should be a task for the htpc... but im lazy...
 
I don't find tablets especially useful, and I'm not a big fan of Android. Give me a netbook any day. I have bought a few bottom end tablets lately for gifts. I'm giving one to my daughter, one for my mother to use as a picture frame, and one for me as a toy. That's about all tablets are good for; toys.

android is awesome, for not actually doing anything 😛 so it sounds perfect since you have a HTPC for your storage and a laptop for real work

Yep seems like we're gonna completely move away from personal processing well I mean besides to run a super simplified is..gotta stay relevent might as well get on thebandwagon now 🙂
 
My iPad has become what I use on the couch, in bed, and on the toilet. I still take my laptop to coffee shops. I do most of my home computing on my desktop and never use my laptop at home anymore.

Lol I'm browsing the net from my phone in bed right now would be nice fo have just a kittle bit more power and a badass screen
 
Whatever works for you. Personally I find that with a 4", dual-core smarthpone (Optimus 2X), a tablet is redundant. It's just an oversized phone that you can't use to make calls.

While I do have a laptop, I almost never use it. When I'm on the move, it's so much easier to just bring the smartphone. Unless I need to type long documents, that's all I need. At home I obviously use the more powerful desktop system.

i had an atom-netbook....great battery life but sluggish even for minor tasks. it was handy, but jesus, it was frustrating

i have an i3 timelinex now, which isnt fast but its definitely better than the atom based netbook. thing is, since i got my nook color and flashed it i almost never use the laptop. if im going to be productive i need my desktop, if im going to be casual or just want to read then the tablet is really convenient. ill take the laptop if im going to be away for a couple of days and might need it for something, but its rarely use at this point
 
I'll get one to use around the house when they get reasonable with the prices. $300 for a high end 9 or 10 seems about right. I bought a $200 kindle, certainly going in the right direction, but I don't fiddle with it to make it work like a real tablet.

There's a bunch of refurbs on ebay. Not sure what that says about the quality, but it's cheap!

There's also a few similar tablets out there, the Windpad 110W, the Asus EP121, and the creme' de la creme', the Samsung Series 7 Slate. (with the latest and greatest intel processors)

I can't speak for Excel, but I show some really basic power points on the iPad without a problem. I'd suspect that problems with some more complex formulas in Excel are probably due more to software than the hardware. I think once Windows 8 hits ARM that software for Android and iOS will probably benefit as well.

I think W8 on ARM will kill Android tablets though. They still have yet to make any significant foothold in the market, mostly due to pricing.
