I think I'm going to have a nervous breakdown

I've had tinnitus (constant ringing) in my right ear for a while now, but I stupidly went out to a club last night with my friends. Of course it was way too loud and I forgot earplugs, my ears are ringing so loud right now, I hate this so much.

Don't ever take silence for granted. Anyone else battle with this?

the sound of white noise

I'm stuck at work and there isn't anything here to generate it. I'm going home from school tomorrow and luckily I have an old computer there that generates the perfect white noise, so it'll help me out for a few nights rest. 🙁🙁 I'm so *$&$&% stupid for going out and not protecting my ears, you think I would learn after 2 years.

after the first Metallica concert I went to, my ears kept popping, like when you yawn. It was so annoying. It was like that for a day. Can't say I've ever had tinnitus for more than a few minutes though; I imagine it must be quite annoying.

Yup. Had it for as long as I've been alive. It's not that loud, though, so I don't notice it unless I try to. Rest assured that it will probably get better as you age. Age-related hearing loss most often occurs at the high frequencies, so you will be less sensitive to it later in life.

Yah it was nearly gone previous to last night, I could completely deal with it on my own without the need for any noise generators. I'm hoping this fades pretty fast, because it was only last night we went.

Oh man I have the same problem on and off. I've been taking some calcium, magnisium, zinc supplements and it helps. I usually get the ear ringing when I'm in bed trying to sleep. But the supplements have helped me get to bed and knock out the ringing. Try a ear candle or go to the doctor and have them flush out the wax in your ear.

I'm going to look into those supplements tomorrow. I've been to an Ear Nose and Throat doctor once and he did the ear flushing thing, probably the most uncomfortable thing I've ever done. It did help though.

Yep.

No cure🙁

Actually, you could kill all of the hair cells in your inner ear. This would definitely take care of the problem. You wouldn't be able to hear anything much at all, though.

That's a contested theory. It's unclear for some people if that would stop the ringing. I remember I used to be part of a support board and one guy was going to have surgery to get the nerve cut so he couldn't hear it. Many people pleaded with him not to do it, on the chance that he would be stuck with ONLY the ringing and no hearing. I never found out what happened, I stopped going to the site.

Slightly more exactly, a sound that has the same power at all frequencies, e.g. static.

I'm shocked to see so many members who have this. I thought it was pretty rare, but I guess I was wrong.

There really isn't anything you can do but cope, man it's stressing me out though. I know it's going to get better, but still, I want to curl into a ball and sleep until then.

I have had tinnitus ever since I got hit by a car. It sucks trying to go to sleep with it. You would think its like white noise, but its not...just very annoying and high pitched like listening to mic feedback all day long.

I've heard of this happening when people have bad whiplash. I'm sorry to hear about this man, what do you do to cope ?

I usually try to focus on something louder. Luckily our funace sounds like a jet engine and is right beside my room. Otherwise, sleeping pills or something similar 🙂

It just gets really hard to deal with it sometimes knowing that (from what the Doc told me) it will never go away. Quite the hopeless feeling. I have had daily headaches as well from the same accident...those are worse.

I'm going to look into sleeping pills when I go to the doc in 2 days, I hate that hopeless feeling.

I hate this, it's nearly bringing me to tears at work. I hate not being able to do anything about it.
