The only thing that is nice is titanium backup...which I am not sure at why it needs root access.
Yes, you do. A full custom rom is required if you want to completely get rid of it, saving the internal storage space.
Root access is needed to access /data/app/ folders to backup and restore them.
I'm pretty well done with modding and flashing too. I think my phone will just stay exactly as it is till the Holidays and see what's out, then I will sell my Vibrant and either get a new phone, or move to a new carrier.
1. go to xda-developers
2. find your phone's forum, click on themes and apps
3. find and download a theme you like.
4. copy the zip to your phone
5. boot into recovery, install from zip, select file, find the file you downloaded and apply it
Heh, you left Tmo because of price complaints and ended up at the most expensive, gold-plated carrier?
Let's face it, you're restless. The itch will come back -- maybe for LTE, maybe in some other way. You're "done rooting" for as long as you keep the Droid X and its limited customization, sure.
